Noise cancelling Headphones
Comments about Sony Noise Canceling Headphones - Black:
I bought these to use at the gym. They play loud rock music while providing television on most cardiovascular equipment. The set works well except for the occasional 5th umpire noise. Support was extremely helpful and it seems my cell 0hone was causing 8th reference when downloading a message or email. The result was I 0urchased a second set to have in stand by just 8th case.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Save your money and get something else. I got the NC 8 and Sony should not have marketed these as noise cancelling because I can't hear any difference between having noise cancelling turned on and when it is off. If you just want plain old cheap stereo headphones, then fine. Spend more money and get a better product if you want REAL noise cancelling headphones. Note: the best ones get expensive. Also...I did not buy the NC 8's through this merchant.

Not noise cancelling, low quality
Pros: Comfortable Cons: Basically unnoticeable noise cancelling and bad quality. I received these headphones as a gift and upon looking them up and seeing the $50 price tag I got very excited. When I tried them on the first thing I wanted to do was try out he noise cancelling. So I was in the car and I decided to flip on the noise cancelling to see if it reduced the road noise. It did not, now with the noise cancelling turned "on" my music is simply quieter and now I have white noise AND the road noise which seemed to get louder. I later turned on the noise cancelling in a completely quiet room and yes, it just created more white noise. I was very disapointed because it seems as if the noise cancelling feature does exactly the opposite of what it sets out to do. On top of this, the sound quality is not good either. There is very little to no bass and the treble all sounds washed out. As if this all wasn't bad enough, the headphones are very quiet. I'm finding myself turning my laptop or music player to very near the max volume just to be able to listen at a reasonable volume in a quiet place, in a louder place like a subway, you might as well forget being able to hear your music very well at all. Would not recommend for any circumstance. Go spend $50 on any other pair of headphones and you will get a much better deal.
LOVE!!! So Satisfied!!
I absolutely love my headphones. They are exactly what I needed to tune out the "Chatty Kathys" in the computer lab so I can listen to my music and get some work done!! They are tough and durable enough to survive me, which is a miracle in itself. My dad got himself a pair of the Boise noise cancelling headphones, so I was able to compare... Not only are mine a bit smaller than his they sound exactly exactly the same except without the ridiculous price tag. I've always loved Sony Products and see no reason to change :)))

I love Sony, but I have to admit this is a terrible buy: the noise cancellation is basically inexistent. I've tried them in a train and a plane and never noticed the slightest noise reduction. Also, there's no sound pass-through: if the NC is off or once the batteries run out the headphones are rendered useless. That's the stupidest design decision ever! I got those as a gift, so I was shocked when I saw their price. I'd be really upset if I had paid my own money for it. Shame on Sony for that one, especially considering the great stuff they can come up with when they really try.

not very sound-reducing
I received these as a gift and thought they would be great to use at college, in the library and around people who would talk so I would not be distracted. These can actually enhance noise. I was very confused when I heard sirens and it an on-off-on-off test without any music playing and was able to hear the sirens with my own ears, but with the headphones it could. Girl's high pitch voices/laughs are painfully sharper/louder using these. I wish they were actually sound reducing and better quality when I listen to music.
