Worst laptop I,ve ever had
from Monterrey, Mexico
I bought it in the US but now I live in Mexico. The computer has had lots of problems. Most of them have been resolved with proper patches later released by Sony but they take months to release them. Problems: 1. Wifi: I couldn't connect wirelessly to my router and the signal strenght moved up and down like crazy. You can't be 10 yards away from the router or the signal will die. My sisters' Mac interfers with my computer wireless internet signal. 2. Fan noise and overheating. 3. I was using my computer today and it suddenly turned off. I thought the battery had ran out of power but when I connect it to the AC power source it didn't charge. I checked the charger and it's power cord (as it says in the product support web page) and everything is fine. The charger led is green and the computer small led that is just beside where you connect the AC charger turns orange for a second and then it turns off. I've tried to turn on the computer and it does turn on but suddenly it turns off. My whole family has had Vaio computers as I do but they decided to change them for Macs. I told them I was a huge mistake but now it seems I did the mistake by staying with sony. For almost $2,000 that it cost I expected it t work perfectly since new. Now am one more guinea pig for Sony. I've had enough.
What's up with all the updates!!!!
from Los Angeles , CA
Fast system! , however right out of the box I have hundreds of updates ; Microsoft updates and Sony Updates. I brought this laptop a week ago and updates are behind , over 1 year. Horrible . Took hours to complete. Can't they just update everything before they shipped the laptop?
Curiously difficult to update.
Pros: Fast hard drive, great looking display, not a lot of preloaded software you will never use, battery life, very light. aesthetically very nice. Processor can handle software development, CS6, Dreamweaver, Adobe, Oracle database. Cons: Very loud fan noise when processing updates or doing any substantive work, track pad is gritty and irritated my index finger, driver install is a pain(had to refresh the laptop after Bluetooth stopped working and after I loaded my other software like MS Office and Ultraedit), upgrading to Win 8.1 was painfully difficult; make sure you use the VAIO Update BEFORE you install ANY Microsoft updates, otherwise, prepare to refresh your machine and start over. No discrete video card. Overall: A nice machine which should have some updates preloaded as the first 24 hours you will install a lot of VAIO and MS updates. I would recommend as the machine is great, but the updates were a bear.

With accessories, I spent almost $2000 on this baby and for that amount of money, yes, I do expect perfection. The worst thing about this laptop is the touchpad. Every time the laptop is in my lap, the touchpad picks up heat or something from underneath the laptop which causes the cursor to jump all over the screen or to disappear. I checked every hardware setting and have updated all software and BIOS. It is not user error. I also had to send the laptop in for a faulty fan which went really loud and would not turn off or slow down. I mean, really? Sony is supposed to be the best in the market. What's up? The pros: lightweight and small size; long long battery life, super fast with 256 GB SSD and 8 GB RAM though I'd like to see more like 12 GB RAM. Incidentally, when I was without a laptop for the 3 weeks it took Sony to get my laptop repaired and returned to me, I went to a big box electronics store and bought a super low-end laptop for $280. Seriously. And honestly, I think I prefer that one, although it is not as small as the Sony. I'm putting my Vaio up for sale.
Its an awesome laptop. Great speed and high screen quality. Its the perfect weight and very reliable. Its great for multimedia and entertainment purposes but it also gets a lot of other work done. The design is beautiful and comfortable to type. I am highly satisfied with this laptop.

Great computer. Windows 8 is awful. Touchpad bad
from NW Pennsylvania
Fantastic computer. Fast. Ultralight. Peripheral friendly. I have several macbook air computers and a number of fast gaming computers. This laptop is as good as any of them. However, the Windows 8 redesign is terrible. It is impossible to find things since the start button is gone. A download can cure this but then the touchscreen is not available. The touchpad cannot be permanently disabled - this makes typing just about impossible. It is necessary to disable the touchpad for each startup. why there is no feature to permanently disable the touchpad is a key design problem.
Great Design; Great Function
Concerning looks, this laptop is fancy and high-class, but the structure is solid and ergonomic. The key lighting is perfect and doesn't distort the printing on them. The touch screen system works fine, and the HD monitor is fantastic. However, you'll have to view it at the proper angle to get the colors perfect. With 12GB of RAM and a hybrid drive, this computer boots around 3 seconds, which includes the resource intensive firewall and antivirius software I have installed. All the programs load fast and there's generally no problem. Windows 8 is kind of lame though.
This is SONY. All is said with this.

I love this laptop, it is awesome, functions very good...the only thing I hate in this product is the Windows 8 installed already. What king of trash! I have never tried it before, but if I have a choice I order one without Windows at all or with the 7 or 2003. Amazing company, amazing products, but software is sometimes...no words....
touchpad doesn't work correctly, cursor keeps disappearing.....enormous amount of time wasted....wish I had gotten another toshiba
