Clean frontal appearance; but increased depth was a problem
By Dick the Unwilling Electrician

Comments about Whirlpool 1.6 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave - Black with Stainless Steel:
The performance of our new microwave exceeds our expectations; but the installation was a problem. We were replacing a 2008 vintage Whirlpool unit. The exterior of the new microwave is considerably deeper; i.e., longer from front to back. That would have been no problem except you also changed the electrical plug on the power connection wire from a flat, right-angled, three prong plug to a straight-in and long, three prong plug. With the new, straight plug, the new microwave was now too deep in size to fit the shelf on our built-in cabinet. I had to convert the electrical receptacle to a recessed unit and then install a short extension cord, with a flat plug, into that receptacle to make room for the power cord and the microwave in our 2006 era cabinetry. Why the long plug instead of a flat plug???
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Good Microwave, No Longetivity
from Austin, Texas
The microwave came with the house that we built. It cooked and re-heated well, but it only lasted 3 years before the magnetron went out. Its cheaper for me to buy a new microwave than to have this one repaired. I've owned Whirlpool products before and this seems to be a recurring theme. Now I'll be waiting for my dishwasher and oven (both Whirlpool) to break down only to set me back another grand.

Bought to replace lower wattage unit. Have had it a couple of months. I have used it mostly for just heating soups and leftovers. Works great - but the covering that protects the key pad is already starting to crack and wear.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Better than I thought
Love it. Light weight but sturdy. Quickly heats up foods and easy to clean.
NOT the size Advertised - actually only 1.2 cu. ft.
from Oklahoma City, OK
We bought this as a replacement for a 16-year old 1.6 cu.ft. Whirlpool that was starting to rust inside (paint peeling), based largely upon the Whirlpool Reputation. When it was installed, it looked smaller than the old one. When measured, it was only 1.23 cu.ft. and completely inadequate for what we wanted. Dealer couldn't do anything, so we had to buy a 2.2 cu.ft. model to get a 16" turntable. Had to wait almost 2 weeks longer for delivery and installation, and pay an extra $80.
