DO NOT PURCHASE THIS REFRIGERATOR
from Lynnwood, WA
Comments about Whirlpool 18.67 Cu. Ft. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Stainless Steel:
I purchased this refrigerator less than one month ago and the refrigerator will not cool unless I change the control almost to its maximum limit Please beware the company will not replace the defective unit and only offer a one year warranty for this product.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Stainless not stain free
Although I would highly recommend the bottom freezer design, this refrigerator is far too noisy ( with loud motor humming and popping sounds ) and impossible to keep the stainless steel clean. Any drip or mark is impossible to get off and leaves a color variation.

Year 1 - freezer handle fell off. freezer drainage plugged, told it was a factory problem. To clean inaccessible coils need to use a leaf blower as no way to get under fridge

Angry customer will never buy whirlpool again
I have all things whirlpool....washer, dryer, fridge, dishwasher, microwave and oven. Within my warranty period, we discovered that the freezer was not sealing. This of course leads to losing everything because it also ruins the food in the refrigerator when the freezer isn't working. So after having this issue repaired TWICE to no avail we have to constantly slam the drawer over and over until the track resets and forms a seal every single time we open the freezer. I have always bought whirlpool but will never do it again. This unit should have been replaced considering I was still under warranty and the problem was never resolved. Never ever ever ever again.

I decided I am not crazy about stainless steel because you see every mark on it.
Disappointed in Whirlpool
from Fairborn, Ohio
I am sure whirlpool products on a whole are fine products. However, this particular item clearly had design and component issues. The first showed up in about a year from purchase and appears to be a common parts issue. Ice would form on the bottom of the freezer floor and then melt and run out onto the floor. After some research, it was obvious that many have had this problem. The issue was a rubber duckbill that allows water to drain into the evaporator pan. After some time, the bill would stick together and not allow water to drain and water would drain out onto the bottom of the freezer section and freeze. during the defrost cycle, the ice would melt and if left to build up would drain on the kitchen floor. $35 replacement part. However, to have someone come in an service it would have been several hundred. (note: if you do replace the part, COMPLETELY defrost the refrig, otherwise, the drain hole could still be clogged and still not let it drain properly). Once I replaced the part everything seemed to work fine. The second issue came a few months later. The bottom freezer would get extremely cold, frozen over and the upper refrig started to get warm. Some more research provided several possible scenarios and I tried the easiest first. This was simply to defrost the whole refrig again. the thought that a vent had frozen in place and was not allowing cold air to get to the top part. This appeared to work fine, but after a few months, it did it again. Thereafter, it just seems to do it at random times. I have theorized that for some reason the thermostat for the upper section causes the unit to think that it needs cooled. Possibly, if there is a lot of activity keeping the door open a lot. This cause the unit to run longer trying to cool. The bottom freezer does not defrost often enough and it freezes over cause the air vent flap to stick which then keeps the cool air from getting to the upper section. Anyway my current solution is to keep watching the freezer section to see if the coils are freezing over. This may be a few weeks to a few months, but it will keep doing it. This is a real pain since I have to unload everything and defrost the entire unit. It is expected that soon I will miss it and have lost a bunch of food. The other option is to have someone come into to service it. This will obviously amount to 100s of dollars. Considering what it may have cost me to repair it the first time if I did not do it myself and what it would cost me now (that is if it is actually fixed), it is just not worth the money. I believe that this was a very poorly designed item and did not have sufficient testing before product delivery. We are in the market for a new refrigerator. I realize that this may be one Whirlpool item out of many that may be good, but my wife no longer wants to look at Whirlpool for appliances. It simply left a bad taste in her mouth. Whirlpool has lost a repeat customer.
Ordinary. But That's What I wanted

I had trouble actually SEEING this in a retail shop, as several different ones listed it as available but described it as "special order." The wait was longer than expected. The size and configuration met my needs, and it works well, with good lighting and shelf flexibility. The handle was loose within a week, but I believe that is a result of the retailer reconfiguring its hinge side. Be aware that "stainless" applies only to front; the sides are nondescript blah. Overall, no complaints. Not outstanding in any way, but a good size.
Wanted a bottom freezer.

Fridge Runs All the Time
Bought this fridge about 8 months ago and it runs all the time- cycles about 20 minutes on and ten minutes off- this during the day when the door hasn't been opened for hours. I've written down the times and it runs for a little over 50% of the time. This can't be efficient
