Bad experience like others
Comments about Whirlpool 26.8 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator - White on White:
3 years and completely dead. Spoiled food, water leaking everywhere. Contacted Whirlpool and they were indifferent. Extended warranty worthless since UNIX can't be fixed. I'll never buy Whirlpool again

I bought this in Sept 2012 Ice maker leaked twice. Stopped cooling 2 days ago and has a major problem with the closed system. There is a special notice to correct the cooling problem that will cost half as much as I paid for the refrigerator and system may leak again. Great design on the outside, very unreliable performance.

I was happy with the product until it started to build up ice behind the cripster. I called custermer service but there was not a tech to advise me. I have to keep defrosting the ice. I think it needs a new sensor .
Don't do it

A year into buying this thing and the service guy has been out 4 times. Replaced the board, compressor, seals and one time to tell us they can't fix the problem. Now our warranty is up "unless we pay another 400 dollars" and the icemaker failed. These problems seem to be consistant across the board with all whirlpool products. They are not getting another cent from me for any products I need in the future.

Two year old refrigerator that we paid over $2200 for and it doesn't work. This is in a home with 2 retired people - not misused at all. First the ice-maker quit and it started making a loud noise that got worse and worse. Technician replaced the defrost switch and put it on manual defrost. Now it's not cooling and he says it can be fixed for $700. OR Whirlpool will sell us a new one for ONLY $1700.
Miserable but attractive

Two weeks after receiving this fridge the compressor started growling. It got progressively worse over 8 months to the point that it sounded like a truck idling in my kitchen. We called for service, and the tech diagnosed a failing compressor. A week later we had the compressor replaced and it sounded like a normal fridge again. Three days later it is completely losing cooling. All my ice and frozen food is melting. The compressor is whining and running non stop. I am not impressed. The design is nice - very roomy and well lit. Too bad it's not keeping my food cold.

Bought a set of range, microwave and fridge. Had them about a month and love them all. Fridge fan is a little loud and having an issue with the freezer door making noise, but I believe that's going to be correctable, so rating them all high as of today.

My beautiful new refrigerator was barely two months old, and the strip that forms the seal between the two doors broke. It can't be replaced, because it is broken on the door side, rather than the strip. Our only option was to have a new door ordered for installation. That could take 6-8 weeks. In the meantime, we have to manually maneuver the left door. Although I am terribly disappointed over this type of breakage, I want to emphasize that our appliance dealer has gone above and beyond to get this issue taken care of. Now, if we can only avoid breaking the strip off completely.

Never Buying Whirlpool Again

Bought a Whirlpool WRF989SDAM fridge in May of 2013 and it started making very loud humming/vibrating noises starting in Fall of 2015. Then the freezer stopped working. Repair person (very experienced owner) said the compressor went bad and we'd need to buy a new fridge or try to see if it was under warranty with Whirlpool. He also said that this is becoming a common problem with Whirlpool. Of course it's only a ONE YEAR warranty for a COMPRESSOR. Ridiculous! A major component like that should not fail in two years. Especially when the appliance cost over $2000. We have Whirlpool now coming out to give us an estimate, but I think that I'll just go out and buy a Samsung or LG after reading the reviews of others who tried to have their units repaired. Terrible experience. And the irony is that we've had two Whirlpool fridges over the years and they were great, which is why we bought this one. Never again!
