Not the same Whirpool

Comments about Whirlpool 4.5 Cu. Ft. Front Loading Washer - Black Diamond:
My wife and I bought the Whirlpool Duet combo seven (7) years ago when we moved to Georgia. Our previous Whirlpool set was over 20 years old and we never made any repairs to them. On the Whirlpool Duet washer after only seven (7) years we replaced the drain pump after it overheated and failed. Other issues are the plastic panel for wash selection is currently coming off and the door gasket needs to be replaced. The pump repair cost over $295 and we were told the front panel and door gasket was another $350. For the combined repair cost, we can buy a new washer. I am extremely displeased with the poor quality of the Whirlpool Duet washer. My opinion is that Whirlpool knows they are selling lower quality products and that is why they only warranty them for one year.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Fine Washer But Matching Dryer Just Okay
from Staten Island, NY
This, believe it or not, is the 12th washer I've had in less than a year! For the price, I'm very picky and expect excellent performance. Some front loaders (GE, for example)take several hours to wash a normal load and has difficulty balancing the load in the final spin. (I tried four of them.) Electrolux doors cannot be left ajar to minimize odor because they're spring loaded and remain fully open. Their matching dryers are only so so. LG was okay with speed but its intermittent fill caused my water pipes to bang. So at this point I know washers and I'm very pleased with this one.A NORMAL cycle set to light soil takes about 45 minutes and gets moderately soiled clothes pretty clean. It goes into spins without much fuss and rarely needs to stop to rebalance loads. A QUICK cycle is as fast as 30 minutes and does a decent job, too. What I like most about this washer is the estimated time display comes close to the actual time it takes to wash a load. I also like that the waster temperature settings are what you'd expect. For example, extra hot appears to be whatever your hot tap is set for. Warm actually feels warm. Other washers, in an attempt to conserve energy, seem to go too far reducing the water temperatures. My GE's hot setting was no more than 90 degrees. I also like the way this washer fills. Although I really don't find the load and go feature to be a great advantage, when you use it the washer fills with a quiet, even spray, sort of like a garden hose mist, and it completely saturates clothing with water and detergent. Finally, I like that it can easily accommodate 15 medium sized bath towels. This washer does have some minor shortcomings. The controls are somewhat small and hard to read although once you know what you're looking for it becomes less of a problem. And this washer is a bit noisier than others. But just a bit. When the spin reaches a certain speed it has a fairly pronounced whine but as speed increases it disappears. (The sound actually impresses guests!)The balancing device within the basket sometimes sounds like marbles rolling inside the tub but that's true for the GE and LG washers, too. That's a small price to pay for otherwise excellent performance. The matching dryer, by the way, is okay but tends to roll sheets into balls within other sheets and you need to stop it frequently to rearrange items.

Load & Go is great. Not even think how much you need adding detergent. and fastwash and clean.
Do More Guessing On Detergent!
from Fort Myers, FL
I have had two other brand front loaders and the same thing kept happening, the rubber seal gets wavy and emits a terrible mildew smell! nasty.NOT THIS MACHINE...you load the detergent container and it lasts about two weeks for my family. No smells. It even has a fresh fan that will run it you forget your clothes, no more double washing. The best machines out there and MADE IN AMERICA!

Had the washer and matching dryer for about a month now. This is not long enough to explore all of the options but we are quite satisfied with how it cleans clothes. Favorite things are the load and go which means you only add detergent once in a great while. It is also easy to program and reasonably swift in completing a load. Negatives are that it is not the quietest machine out there. The spin cycle sounds like a jet about to take off but at least it doesn't vibrate and it still sounds like a high quality piece of machinery.
Clean Clothes in a Whirl
By Christina the Cleaner

I received this washer a few weeks ago and doing my laundry is no longer a chore I don't enjoy. The Steam I am 5'2" and trying to reach my laundry at the bottom of the washer was always difficult...not anymore with my Steam Front Load Washer. The washer is quiet when going through the cycles and it alerts you with a rhythmical tune when completed. I no longer have sopping wet clothes before placing in the dryer as the spin cycle removes the majority of the water. I also love the steam option and the Load & Go system which allows you to preload a large amount of detergent to dispense when needed. There are many different cycles to ensure your clothes get the best and cleanest of their ability. I find the soil level to be helpful for those extra dirty clothes. I could go on and on but then the other reviewers won't have anything to add. My suggestion is to definitely purchase this washing machine...you won't be sorry!
Great feature - load and go
I love love love the load and go system not messing with laundry soap on every load is so awesome. I'm sure I was using way to much soap and now it does it for me. I have not been buying nearly the the amount of soap I used before.

Beautiful design, state of the art, easy to use, and gets my clothes clean. Dries the clothes in the washer. Fantastic machine!

Very happy so far

In the week that I've had this washer, I've been pleased with its performance. I can't wait to see my next water bill to see if I'm saving water.
Very happy with this purchase. Especially like the steam function and the "load and go" reservoir for detergent.
