It was great until the warranty expired at 3 years old.

Comments about Whirlpool 3.6 Cu. Ft. Top Loading Washer - White:
I bought this and the matching dryer a few years ago. At first the machine was decent...I did have to retighten the bottom nut on the belt gear in my first year, but other than that it was good for the first three years. Right after my warranty expired the machine took longer and longer to wash and started doing weird things like not spin or not agitate. No codes were thrown. It also started using hot water to rinse instead of cold. I finally replaced it today as now the control board is supposedly bad (still no codes thrown). The dryer has been great. The washer was my most expensive washer purchase and I was disappointed. Also the interior finish degraded quickly around the bottom edge of the top of the cabinet. In the last couple years, I went from a +1 to a family of 6 :) The problems with this machine made laundry difficult. We would have to unplug, spin the machine by hand so it would start, etc. Wash took 2-3 hours a load at times.Right after I bought this new model, Whirlpool came out with another model at the same price point that is much better from what I hear. Many repair guys told me this one was a dud in their line-up.I love Whirlpool, but not this machine.

Waste of Money!
from Santa Maria, CA
This is absolutely the worst washer I have ever owned! It doesn't clean the clothes, it takes forever and you often have to wash the same item several times to get it clean. Sometimes it just sits and ticks then it can take over an hour and a half to wash and the clothes still aren't clean!

I bought this washer and dryer and it is the biggest mistake I have ever made. I will never buy another Whirlpool product as long as I live...
I Won't Buy Another Whirlpool Washing Machine
By Former Whirlpool Customer
from Dracut, MA
I bought this machine from my local family owned appliance store on 2/21/12. As of 12/10/15 I have had to make 3 service calls to have this machine repaired. This first call was on 8/15/13 because the washer was noisy/grinding during the spin cycle. It turns out a nut fell off from underneath the machine. The repairman apologized for charging me for something he said he saw frequently with this machine and told me if it happened again to super glue it on. The most recent problem was the washer was draining but not spinning and the clothes were wet when the washing cycle ended. A service call indicated that the machine needed a new capacitor. Also, during this service call the appliance repairman asked if I noticed how loud the machine was. He stated the machine was very loud and that I probably didn't notice because it was getting louder gradually. He said this is caused by the transmission bearing and that this indicated the machine would need this replaced in the foreseeable future. He told me at that point I would probably be throwing good money after bad and should consider buying another machine. I emailed Whirlpool after his visit on 12/10/15 to complain. I was not expecting anything from them and true to form during my call with them today 12/21/15 they said "because of the age of the machine there was nothing they could do." My machine is not even 4 years old. I told the rep I wasn't surprised that nothing could be done but when the time comes to replace this machine it won't be with another Whirlpool. My last machine was a Maytag that lasted me 20 years. I have a family of 3 and do about 6/7 loads of laundry a week. Very disappointing.

Problems from the beginning

I have had this washer for 1 1/2 years. It has been repaired twice and now the agitator and seal went, cost to repair now is $385.00. Leaves lint on clothes and does not always clean properly.
Do not buy this washer

I bought this washing machine when I moved into my house in mid 2012. The machine has basically not worked properly for most of this time. I do two loads a week which means for anyone else, this machine would have broken in like two months. I've already had a repair man come in and he replaced some parts but said, "this is a horrible mode' and there was nothing he could do. The spin cycle does not work. I hang my sopping wet clothes each time. The screen says "47" minutes but really takes hours. It was such a waste of money.
DONT BUY! SEARCH THE INTERNET ABOUT IT!

DO NOT EVER BUY THIS. PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE. PARTS FOR SIMPLE FIXES COST AS MUCH AS NEW WASHER. TRUST ME.
Limited Use, But So Far, A Winner

Obviously, over time this review could change and I suspect it will be higher rather than lower. At this point I have had the dryer (5500 gas series) for just a few weeks. Convenient controls combining dials and electronic push-buttons. The AccuDry system seems to be efficient, capacity is VERY adequate. Common sense prevails when drying many items (especially large articles) to be certain they don't wrap around one another. The AccuDry Sensors may not be effective when that that happens. All-in-all a very good price point and value, recommended.

It died after 4 years
By Texas Resident
I have to rate this machine is poor simply because it didn't last very long. 4 years, to be exact. In my opinion, that is a complete fail. We had the repairmen come out, who said it wouldn't be worth it to fix it. For the money, he recommended buying a new one. During the time that the machine did work, it wasn't bad. I would even rate it as good - if it weren't for its short life. Sorry. Four years really doesn't cut it.

If I could give this a zero rating, I would. It lasted only 4 years until a total breakdown. The washer stopped draining the clothes, leaving them soaking wet. The hoses went bad. The lid lock refused to unlock, thus disallowing me to get my wet clothes. The spin cycle was hit or miss as far as it working. The motherboard went bad and the transmission was on it's last leg. I got a quote of $700 to repair in addition to the service call, and that's providing the transmission does not need to be replaced. I am very upset with Whirlpool!!!
