The NS-777 speaker system has been designed specifically for home theater applications. The floorstanding speaker is a bass reflex design that can be used for main channels and incorporates a pair of 8" polymer-injected mica diaphragm (PMD) cone woofers, a 5" midrange cone driver and a 1" aluminum dome tweeter. For improved imaging, the midrange and tweeter utilize exclusive Yamaha waveguide horns.
Unlike most homes, movie theaters use sound absorbing materials on walls and ceilings. The result is that the sound reaching your ears is the sound wave produced by the speakers rather than reflected off the walls. Yamaha has created waveguides that greatly reduce reflected sound and increase the proportion of directly generated sound waves reaching your ears. The result is a clear and precise sense of sound direction and placement.
Yamaha has chosen to ensure optimum sound quality by internally wiring some of the components with Monster Cable™. This ensures a clean, clear signal from the crossover network to the speaker drivers.
Matching speaker stands provide solid footing for full floor contact, enhanced stability and minimal vibration resonance. The stands also provide an attractive counterpoint to the cabinet.
The speaker is magnetically shielded, so it can be placed on a TV or video monitor without degrading the picture via stray magnetic fields.
To further maintain signal purity, Yamaha provides bi-wiring capability for the NS-777 speakers. There are separate +/- terminals for the woofer(s) and the other driver(s). The separation reduces modulation distortion and better sound quality.
The EF series speakers are enclosed in an elliptical form cabinet with a high gloss black piano finish which provides solid construction with minimal sound diffraction.
New grille design and grille cloth provide an attractive and acoustically transparent protective cover for the drivers.

Been using these speakers for more then a year. So here's my list of pros and cons. I've been using them as front speakers in my surround system. But I've also used them in stereo. Good things: 1) Sound is pretty crisp. I especially love the to hear classical music on these speakers. The sound is very authentic. 2) The value for money is great. These speakers are cheap. 3) They are pretty towers! 4) The Authentic is excellent for movies. Still can't compete with a good sub-woofer though. Bad Things 1) Deeper tones/lower frequency range is a bit too low for my liking. 2) The piano finish looks great. But don't forget you have to clean it all the time. It's very susceptible to dust, greasy fingers and wet doggy noses :D All in all: Great cheap starter set. The lower frequencies needs a bit of a boosting. But a good sub can help on that. I at least am very happy with mine.
