Comments about Yamaha 7.2 Channel Wi-Fi Built-In High Performance Network AV Receiver - Black:

My system is always on. The bad part about the system is that it does not allow me to hook up my game system. Other than that, it is awesome. Super sound. Easy set-up. Crisp, clear and my vinyl records sound better than ever.

Comments about Yamaha 7.2 Channel Wi-Fi Built-In High Performance Network AV Receiver - Black:

I purchased the 677 to replace a Denon DTS receiver because I wanted HDMI inputs. While the Denon sounded and worked great, the sound quality from this Yamaha is absolutely stellar! With all the features available to you on this receiver, it is surprisingly simple to setup and operate. I called Support once and they were able to help me figure out an issue not receiving a digital signal from my Blu-ray player. I have recommended this receiver to a good buddy as well. The RX-V677 is simply fantastic!

I use this as my home theatre system it is not the highest end but is reasonable in cost and sounds good! Like most Yamaha receivers it is tough and is great value for your dollar. I was impressed with my Polk speakers and using this receiver I was listening to internet radio and turned it up to full volume and their was not any distortion in the music at all. I was impressed!!

Comments about Yamaha 7.2 Channel Wi-Fi Built-In High Performance Network AV Receiver - Black:

I like one of the other reviewers am experiencing a drop out in my HDMI signal when passing through the AV to the TV. The screen will go black for about 1-2 seconds while the audio continues uninterrupted. I don't understand what is causing this I'm using monster HDMI cables, that I've switched out twice in order to eliminate malfunctioning cables. This malfunction will happen maybe 1-2 time every couple hours ,not enough to be really annoying but it occurs usually at the least opportune time. When the HDMI video is working properly its stunningly accurate and sharp.
I received the 677 for Christmas from my wife, and was very happy. It replaces an out dated AV Denon 1500 purchased in 1996 .
The audio is amazing, sound is accurate with no noticeable amp noise, hum or buzz, when the volume is cranked up, not even a hiss.
Drives my 7.1 setup with minimal distortion, My Kliipsch towers have never sounded as sweet. My wife and kids love the ipod airplay they come home and the jams are on.
This good mid range AV receiver is function filled, and packed, with all kinds of goodness. If you require more than (2) audio only inputs, or Bluetooth connectivity. This AV receiver may not be idea for you . You can always purchase the the Bluetooth adapter for 60 bucks more?

A couple things that I really Found useful are the YPVO, and the included CD with the owner manuals and setup information. After taking 5 minutes to review the CD setup was a snap.

Comments about Yamaha 7.2 Channel Wi-Fi Built-In High Performance Network AV Receiver - Black:

I replaced a Yamaha RX-A1000 with a Yamaha RX-V677 about 2 weeks ago & have sufficient experience to provide a review. My environment is all-Acoustic Research speakers in a 5.1 configuration, a Yamaha Blu-ray DVD player, Sony CD player, Apple TV box, Panasonic VCR player ( I still watch tape recordings), Samsung basic 55-inch HDMI TV and Comcast service — relatively basic configuration. Let me state that I'm not an audiophile — I wouldn't be able to distinguish a Burr-Brown DAC with a ESS Sabre DAC receiver. I'm familiar with Yamaha products and decided to stay with Yamaha because I've been very satisfied with Yamaha products.
My RX-A1000 receiver got zapped by a surge over my Comcast line and, while it is still functional, I lost 3 HDMI ports. This along with my desire to use AirPlay & have wireless connectivity provided sufficient impetus for me to replace it — but with what?
I considered buying a RX-A1040 (has ESS Sabre DACs) which is the current descendent of the RX-A1000, but when I balanced the feature set of the RX-A1040 vs the RX-V677 and the fact that the RX-A1040 cost about twice as much as the RX-V677, I went with the RX-V677.
Well, so far I believe I made the correct decision. Being a senior citizen my hearing is a little impaired and I determined I likely would not perceive the difference in acoustic characteristics between my old RX-A1000 and the RX-V677 — and that turns out to be correct.
I like that the RX-V677 upscales 720p to 1080p — my old RX-A1000 did not. I like the Yamaha iPad (and iPhone) AV app to easily manage the RX-V677 without requiring me to have the TV on or use the remote controller. I like the AirPlay feature. The RX-V677 provides four Scene configurations — the RX-A1000 provided more but four is sufficient for me.
I realize many reviewers of Yamaha AV receivers complain that a printed users manual is not provided. I personally prefer a pdf version over a printed version — I can easily read the manual on my lap top while in front of the receiver.
Well is there anything I don't like about the RX-V677? — so far no. The RX-V577 might be sufficient for me, but I was willing to spend an extra $100 for the RX-V677 because it has dialogue lift capability — the RX-V577 does not.
I recommend the RX-V677 provided that the prospective buyer carefully considers both his-her current needs with a view toward potential future needs; e.g., 4k TV.

Great receiver! I upgraded from my Yamaha RX-V665 because I needed 4K pass-through for my Samsung 4K TV. Great sound quality, many features and pretty easy to setup. I really like the iPhone App for remote control, and remotely connect via Wi-Fi wireless to my iTunes on my PC. The only CON is that it doesn't always shut off smoothly when connected to my TV. Sometimes I have to shut the TV on/off a couple times to come back on without the receiver.

It replaced my yamaha 667,,I run my whole house on this, it rocks,, But it will mess with your i pod classic,, did not have any problem with my old rec, just plug it in, but with the usb jack,, that did not turn out so well,,lost my ipod, it went black,My tv is old, so it dont have a usb jack,,So having trouble getting the on screen,, Apple said my ipod was corrupted, took me a 1/2 hr to get my ipod back to normal,,the good news is, You can run a classic in the back of your yamaha,in one of the (sound inputs) using the good old jacks,,,So if your tv old like mine,, your old classic ipod will still work,, and i"m not the only one who had trouble with this,,all in all with a little time with this unit,, your house will be rock"n,,the 677/ replaced the 667,,i just wist yamaha left the input jack alone for the ipod, and added the usb,,all and all nice unit

Comments about Yamaha 7.2 Channel Wi-Fi Built-In High Performance Network AV Receiver - Black:

I really, REALLY want to give the RX-V677 a higher rating because this feature-packed receiver deserves some attention (my actual rating would be a 3.5, but it could easily have been a 5), but its HDMI performance brings down my score a bit. As an audio receiver, I am VERY satisfied with the RX-V677 - it sounds amazing and I can really discern the various sound channels in my 6.1 speaker setup. (I am upgrading from an older Yamaha receiver.) The zone setup and controls take a bit of getting used-to, but it works very well. Everything works as it should as far as audio decoding goes; but unfortunately I cannot say the same for video through HDMI. To put it simply: when using an HDMI device with this receiver, the picture will occasionally go black for a few seconds and then return back to normal until it intermittently does it again 30 minutes to an hour later (please note that the sound does not stop whenever this occurs). This happens with all of my devices when passed through this receiver (but not when connected directly to my television) and I am using certified HDMI 1.4 cables. I was hoping that this behavior would be remediated with the latest firmware update but unfortunately, this is not the case. I will keep monitoring this issue for now, but am rather disappointed in having to experience this at all. On a positive note, when the HDMI pass-through is working, it works well. So to end this review: As an audio receiver, the RX-V677 is outstanding; as an HDMI switching-device, only okay with so much unmet potential.

Comments about Yamaha 7.2 Channel Wi-Fi Built-In High Performance Network AV Receiver - Black:

Finally got a new HD 4K TV and needed a new audio unit with HDMI connections. Have a 2nd location off of my other stereo that works for my set up so it was a major factor in deciding what to get and this fit the bill. And I also love the 7.1 feature so now I can really utilize all 7 (+subwoofer) speakers. Very easy to set up, love how easy it is to switch back and forth between settings.
Had an issue with an other HDMI unit but this does not seem to be an issue at all. Connects all my older non HDMI electronics (ie. turn table, VCR and karaoke units) with ease
Great power, watched Jurassic Park 3D and the whole house shook, better than the theater
        Highly recommend

This product replaces a Marantz SR7200, and more recently an Onkyo TX-NR636. The system drives five Definitive Technology tower speakers. The sound is clear and loud.
