This was my first separate freezer, so I did not want a manual defrost.
Freezer worked perfectly, averaging at least a -5 temp for a little over six months, then one fine hot 90 degree day this July, I came home after being out eight hours, blower was blowing hot air at 70 degrees all over the food. Food was floating in condensation and soup. DEFROST TIMER GONE! Cost here:
$300.00 freezer+ $400.00 in spoiled food + 3 hours of clean up to prepare it as suitable enough for the repairman.
(A whole shelf of meats, another shelf of pre cooked foods, ALL GONE!)I gave the frozen bread, rolls, and bagels away, making a lot of friends in the neighborhood, publicity and P.R. for the dealer and manufacturer, though.
Warranty service man authorized by Frigidaire was reliable and prompt enough, and Frigidaire says it will mail me a check for $50.00, not that I'm not grateful, but the trustworthiness factor and any confidence I had previously with the freezer are gone with the food. I won't put into it that which I cannot buffalo shuffle to another appliance at a moment's notice on another hot day.
For a freezer manufacturer not to warranty food loss for the warranty period, together with validation and documentation from the owner, for the warranty period is like saying, "I do not have confidence in my appliance I just made to work!"
