I bought this for my wife. I compared it to the canon EOS T2I. Mind you the canon is packed with features and is a great camera also, but the thing that won me over is the ease of use and the auto focusing on video and nikon reputation. If price is no object then go for the canon with all the bells and whistles. If you are on a budget and need to take great pictures of your kids at school shows and vacation pictures get the nikon you will not be disappointed.

Excellent photo quality; well-laid-out controls; interesting, user-friendly Guide mode; full manual controls in video capture. A very good entry-level dSLR, the Nikon D3100 delivers excellent photo quality in a body that's streamlined for experienced photographers, but relatively unintimidating for the less advanced. Its only weakness is performance; though solid, it nevertheless lags behind the competition (Canon T2i). Overall 8.5/10 for the price of 650.
