Strong Foundation

consider if you need an overall lower height
needed a box that was low to allow a thicker mattress with overall height no more than 27" due to hip issue. This worked perfectly.

perfect height
we chose the taller box spring ( 8" I think ) and we could barely get into the bed, I spoke to some one at P C Richards and they delivered and replaced it with the shorter box spring and now it's perfect so thanks a million to P C Richards, that's real customer service and they didn't charge for the switch!

Damaged, unsafe delivery
Product arrived with ripped fabric through the plastic covering. Delivery team did not follow advertised COVID protection promises. As far as the box spring, 5 inches is certainly not as stable as 9 inches, so unless you have height or space limitations, stick with 9. If I could do it again I would.
