Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big Surprise In A Small Size. Well my wife last night finally let me set up my S5500 and here are my impressions of it. First I didnt think I would like it asthetic wise but I was wrong. Good solid build quality and it dont feel cheap to me like last years models did. No more pesky finger print issues and it dont seem prone to scratches. I like the look. Setup was a simple breeze and and I hard wired it to my router and it downloaded the firmware updates fast and quick unlike my old S6200 which seemed to have a hard time down loading firmware updates. I tested out a few of my reference Blu's and disc loading was very fast. Paired up with my Sony AVR and Sony 55W900A PQ was excellent as well as audio. I wasnt bothered at all by the 5500 not having a front end display while playing movies and I noticed no humming sound or any noise coming from the player while it was doing its thing. Over all I am very very satisfied with this little player and cant wait to play some full length movies this weekend. I think I am good now for awhile when it comes to Blu ray players so there wont be any upgrades on Blu ray players anytime soon. I finally have what I have been lookin for and my wife is happy about that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blou=ray Player I borrow movies from our local library and new releases are easier to get on Blu-ray than regular DVD so I purchased this player. I chose Sony because all of my other video products are Sony and I like to keep everything compatible. I was surprised and pleased to find that I can access the internet with the player and plug a USB flash drive into the front and view programs from my laptop such as all my pictures on my TV. I haven’t explored all of the functions, but so far I am very pleased. Another plus is that the remote is similar to the one for my older Sony DVD player so I didn’t have to teach my wife how to use it. I do wish that the on/off switch and the open/load switch were better defined rather than being black on black, but everything is that way now including the controls in my 2014 automobile.

Be aware that if you use an HDMI switch on the output that it does not provide sufficient power to run the switch which will require the switch to have its own separate 5 V supply.

The unit is much smaller and lighter than my previous Sony Blu-Ray player, but it is more web friendly with its Opera browser, etc. Good job, Sony.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Streaming away After resetting the modem / router from the cable company, our streaming experience has been enjoyable. I checked the signal strength using the Sony's menu and it seems to be more than enough to stream TV & movies in HD. Still learning about the remote, but the instruction booklet is straight forward, so learning should progress easily. The only draw back to this unit is the little green "on" light in the upper right corner of the unit's face. No menu, which is one of the reason the blue ray player is so small. We have not tried playing a disk yet. The unit was set to "power save" so it loads up streaming data on the slow side, which is OK with us. Patience....and you will enjoy using this tiny unit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good Product Very good product ... I look the small footprint. Only a couple of things so far. One time the dvd tray didn't want to open, for some reason. After messing with it for a little while, it finally did open. The NETFLIX button works just fine, taking you to NETFLIX; but, then the screen tends to freeze sometimes. Other than that, it's working very good.
