If you're anything like me, the thought of getting a Kindle has probably crossed your mind dozens of times. Then, after thinking about it for a few minutes, you talk yourself out of it. Well, I'm here for both of our sakes to give you three reasons to finally get a Kindle of your very own. Read on to find out why now is the best time to get your hands on one of these convenient e-readers.

1. Reduced Blue Light Exposure

We are exposed to blue light now more than ever in our tech-filled lives. If you work in front of a computer, or have any hobbies that involve a screen, you're likely getting blasted with eye-straining blue light for hours every day. Thankfully, Kindles don't operate using typical display technology; they use something called E-Ink. This technology doesn't use any backlighting, which means it doesn't push light out at you. Instead, it operates almost like an electronic Etch A Sketch. Electricity moves microscopic bubbles of what is essentially “ink” around to display words. It does use LEDs to light the screen, but not as backlighting. Instead, LED lights are lined around the display and shine light down onto the screen. The E-Ink and the LEDs are what give the Kindle its book-like appearance and allow it to be glare-free, even in direct sunlight. This type of display is far easier on the eyes since the blue light isn't being directed into your face. You're still going to be dealing with some blue light exposure, but significantly less than you'd get from a phone or tablet. With newer Kindle models featuring even more ways to reduce blue light, like dark mode and warm lighting settings, there's never been a better time to get a Kindle if you're blue-light conscious.

2. The Rise of Color E-Ink

That's right - certain Kindles now come with color E-Ink! That means you won't be limited to black and white visuals on your Kindle anymore. With color E-Ink, you'll be able to see book covers, comic or manga panels, and any other images in full color. The best part is these Kindles still maintain the book-like feel and appearance of a regular Kindle, and they retain their reduced blue-light properties too. If you're mainly a comic book or manga fan and the lack of color has been keeping you from getting a Kindle, now's your time.

3. Digital Minimalism and Low-Risk Reading

With the rise of BookTok and a constant stream of fresh authors writing for a young adult audience, reading is trendier than ever! However, with so many titles making the rounds on social media, there are bound to be a few that you just don't like. This isn't a phenomenon exclusive to young readers either - every reader has gone through the experience of taking a trip to their local bookstore and grabbing the latest bestseller, just to wind up disappointed with their purchase after a couple of chapters. A Kindle is an easy solution to this problem! A Kindle makes it easier than ever to utilize your library by giving you the convenience of taking out library books without even leaving your house. What's more, if your chosen book turns out to not be your cup of tea, simply delete it and it's gone. Having a Kindle also means you won't have to deal with storing books once you buy them. Though many book collectors enjoy this aspect and embrace it, a more casual reader, or someone who may not have enough space to store a ton of books, may prefer this digital option.

With so many convenient features both new and old, there's really never been a better time to get a Kindle. These devices have much to offer for avid and casual readers alike, and though it's hard to replicate the exact feeling of reading a book and turning a page, the Kindle comes as close as possible to emulating that experience in a portable package. If you've been holding out on getting one of these fantastic e-readers for one reason or another, or if you want to get more into reading, there's no reason to wait anymore. A Kindle has everything you need to enjoy reading even more. Happy reading!
