We never knew they existed until we had a designer go over our new kitchen layout that included a huge space for a built in tray microwave oven. Its big and works well so far. We took out a extended warranty because we have had not prior use history with a built in microwave. You can add a lot more items to a built in and it dose not rotate the food like a table top microwave. They are a little pricey so choose wisely according to your needs.

In fact, it is identical except for the cheap-looking matte-finish aluminum handle. The appliance finish is described as stainless, which it is, but no mention of aluminum handle. Maybe a step up from the previous faux-stainless plastic handle but it doesn’t match. Fortunately, the microwave is on the backside of the island, so no one sees it but us. By the way, however, the previous one started making a melted plastic burn smell after 15 years. The installer told us they have a 7-10 year lifespan. Might have been able to save a lot by replacing the magnetron but chose not to take the chance.

Most recently the wave guide caught fire and could have easily burnt down my home. Lucky I was close to the unit and was able to intervene. I came to find out that is is an ongoing issue with sharp and that there is a class action settlement concerning the wave guide arcing. Unfortunately, Sharp has decided to only replace the units with this obvious latent defect within 5 years of purchase. Would definitely steer clear of this manufacturer.

Within the first year the Magnetron had to be swapped out. And now the microwave has stopped working again. It did not go on fire as some have mentioned. Is it safe to put a rubber mat in the bottom of the draw

Auto door open close is no longer working

My drawer was sticking. and I had to pull slightly on the handle while pressing the OPEN button. The fix was to lube the black plastic hooks that hold it closed with some silicone grease. Works perfectly again. I wish I had known that 2-3 years ago when the problem started!
