Very happy so far
I bought this car audio about 5-6 weeks ago. I has really delivered for me in a 2011 Ford Ranger. I replaced the stock radio with this. I love that it handles ApplePlay and that I can do so much hands free with it.

Great update for my 2011 Corolla
I have a 2011 with only about 64,000 miles on it. I've thought about a new car but am not eager to take on a new car loan. One of the things the Corolla needed was an updated radio so I had the XAX-AX1000 installed and have been very happy with my decision. The unit is responsive and versatile. I can control it with the existing steering wheel controls with no problem whatsoever. Apple CarPlay is a great addition but Bluetooth connection works very well, also. The audio took a bit of time to tweak because, with a 10-band equalizer, there is quite a bit of adjusting that is possible. Having a backup camera has been an excellent safety addition and I'd recommend that option to anyone installing this radio. For me, there is very little to dislike about this unit. It has breathed new life into my 10-year-old car!

All the features I was looking for
I was looking to replace my single DIN stereo with a double DIN stereo for my Acura RSX, and quickly caught onto the XAV-AX1000. Also, having Apple's CarPlay feature is the best touch.

Great build

BETTER THAN KENWOOD DMX125BT
I Bought this sony to replace the KENWOOD DMX125BT I bought a month ago, that will not turn on and off all the time, have to keep pushing buttons over and over to get to turn off or on.I am so glad I got the the sony ,so much better, even though I lost money after replacing the kenwood a month after buying it, but I guess it was well worth it.so sony so much better for the price.I wish I would have got the sony first,I coud have saved 200.00
dollars.I learned the hard way.will likey buy another sony for my other car,no more kenwoods for me

Awesome hidden gem

So far so good.
Started right up as expected. All s good on day one. Great sound on the stock speakers of my 2006 Mustang which had the factory Shaker 500 system. Added a pair of 10” subs with amp in the trunk and still have some tweaking to do. Thanks Sony for a great head unit.

bough this two weeks ago. Very easy to install into my jeep grand cherokee 2002. Had to buy a dash kit and cut the inside of my dash to fit this stereo, but now it fits like a charm. Looks sleek and not flashy, almost as if its the factory made stereo.

Great value choice overall
Bought this due to a new handsfree law in my state, plus the NY Times had a review that called this the best value buy for carplay radios. I'd agree with that. It's easy to use and I like that it has a volume knob instead of buttons. Really like that it keeps playing the radio in the background while in carplay mode.
One quibble is that there are only about eight characters for the RDS feature, meaning it takes about four or five lines before you get an artist or song, which is annoying when you're driving and just want to get it at a glance. There's plenty of screen real estate to show it all at once, so maybe they can fix this via an update in the future.

Purchased this product on Sep 10th and it was delivered on the 19th in excellent packed condition. All instruction sheets were received to remove and install the new unit and they were precise and on point. I absolutely am satisfied with this Sony product. Certainly exceeded my expectation. Carplay is absolutely wonderful and a joy to play with. The output wattage is also more than ample for this unit. Did not know about DSO but it certainly makes a difference with door speakers that are mounted toward the bottom. Would certainly recommend this product and also Crutchfield for their excellence in technical expertise and overall purchase experience. Good Job.

Simple design, easy to use.
I bought and installed the XAV-AX100 in my car two months ago, and I love it. I wanted a simple Apple CarPlay head unit. I compared many radios before settling on this one. This is what it came down to:
1) Simple, un-cluttered buttons on the face of the radio; a home button, volume/option control, and seek forward/back buttons.
2) Easy to navigate user interface. I hate digging through menu upon menu to try and find settings for different options. Sony took a minimalist approach and took all of the guesswork out of changing settings. There’s no extra bloatware in the menus, and it’s great.
3) Double-DIN screen with a single-DIN radio attached to the back. It looks weird, but you really don’t know the difference once it’s installed in your dash. The advantage for me here is that I was able to use the extra space of the single DIN chassis to tuck all the wiring in underneath it. Very helpful when installing the radio.
4) Response time of the radio. This is a big one for me. I cannot stand slow, laggy response time. After watching several videos on this radio specifically before I ordered it, I concluded that response time was not an issue.
That still holds true. There is a startup time of about 15-20 seconds when the car is first started, but when I start my car, I’m doing other things before I focus on the radio anyway. Besides, most infotainment systems have some sort of startup cycle they go through at key on. That’s just how it is.
I discovered after the radio was installed and running that there is an option to adjust the bluetooth audio level on the radio itself. I don’t use the bluetooth much, but that is a very cool feature. I did try out the bluetooth phone connection, and it works great. Again, the display puts all the information in front of me with simple, non-bloated ease of use. Easy to navigate and make calls.
I only have two complaints. While the volume knob is one of the selling points for me, it’s also tiny and a bit hard to get my fingers around sometimes. If it was knurled more, closer to the top edge and a little bit taller, it would be perfect.
My second complaint is the audio amplifier. It’s rated at 20 watts RMS X 4. I replaced all four speakers at the same time I replaced the radio. I was disappointed when I cranked up the volume, and wound up having to purchase an amplifier, connecting it to the pre-amp outputs, and then wired the amp to all four speakers.
That brought the sound quality up to expectations. But I guess with that single DIN chassis, there’s only so much amp they can pack in there.
All in all, this radio is exactly what I wanted. If I had it to do all over again, I would definitely buy this radio again.

Excellent sound and CarPlay integration
I had this unit installed a few weeks ago. At first not so sure of going full multimedia, but it has proven to be an excellent decision. Sound is crisp and clear using only my iPhone. Mostly iTunes And Spotify. Phone calls are easy with Siri. In short, I love it.

CarPlay changes everything
I never want to drive without CarPlay again! This unit is easy to use (with CarPlay, I've not gotten Android Auto working yet, I suspect I didn't hook up the parking brake wire correctly). I have steering wheel control for the volume, but when I or others are the passenger, we love that the volume control is a real knob.

Great head unit, but one recommendation
I am in love with this head unit, its slick, responsive and easy to use. But there is one issue I do have sincd I drive an old vehicle. To have my DRL’s on, I have to manually turn them on. Unfortunately if I have the auto dimmer on, this will dim the unit even in pure daylight. One addition to this unit that I would like to see in a future update, if updates are still present, is to be able to set the dimmer to an auto dim at a certain time period.
