The SM1400 offers the perfect set of features for everyday sewing and mending, at an affordable price. Lightweight yet full-sized, this machine can easily fit on a table or desk, then be carried and stored away when not in use. Included are 14 stitches for blind hems, stretch stitches, buttonholes, zipper insertion, and more. Selecting your stitches is as easy as turning the dial, and the tension control dial and reverse sewing lever give you added control at your fingertips. The four included quick-change presser feet allow you to easily insert zippers, create buttonholes, sew on buttons, and handle general sewing. This machine also has a built-in easy needle threader, jam-resistant Quick-Set top drop-in bobbin, clear-view bobbin cover and bobbin, automatic bobbin winding system, and a free arm for sewing cuffs and sleeves. Included are an instructional DVD to help you get started, and an English and Spanish user manual.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not what I wanted The box clearly states that it has quilting stitches (shell tuck stitch and free motion stitch), however, it does not come with the instructions to do so, the free motion foot is not included with the machine, and there is no way to drop the feed dogs. I bought this machine because it stated on the box that it had free motion stitching. I am disappointed and will now have to buy another machine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What?? "Jam Resistant" bobbin?? This SM1400 - the bobbin regularly jams and comes unthreaded. Almost impossible to sew at all.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy Buyer beware. I received this as a Christmas gift. It does not work. It may sew a 2 inch stitch before messing up. The buttonhole was one single stitch. Not a rectangle. Good luck getting a button through that. Nothing but frustration. I had a private sewing lesson and the instructor confirmed I received a broken machine. Waiting now to see if Brother will honor the one year warranty.
