Don't Ignore These 5 Spring Cleaning Tasks!
Posted on April 14, 2026 By Alison P.
Spring cleaning season is in full swing, and we commend you for riding that urge to tidy your living space for as long as you possibly can. Vacuuming, dusting, and mopping are always going to be the first tasks that come to mind, but what about some of the finer details of spring cleaning that can slip under the radar? We're here to give you five easily-overlooked cleaning tasks to add to your checklist, helping you to get every corner of your home the cleanest it can be!
Refrigerator Water Filter
It's always a good idea to have a total fridge cleanout on your spring-cleaning list, but once you're done tossing the leftovers, washing the shelves and adding a fresh box of baking soda, don't forget about cleaning the drinking water too! If you have a refrigerator with water dispenser, the filter might be due for a replacement. Many refrigerator models have an indicator light to let you know when it's time for a new filter, but since you're already in Cleaning Mode, why not take care of it now while it's top of mind? We've got a handy guide to refrigerator water filter replacement to walk you through the steps.
Bedding Accessories
Of course you wash your sheets and blankets regularly, but don't forget the rest of your sleeping gear! Check the instructions on your pillows for washing instructions, and if it's safe, throw them on into the machine. Peeling off your mattress protector and washing it is also a very good idea - just be sure to follow the washing instructions carefully - or even invest in a new one for a totally fresh start. If there's a bed skirt on your bed, make sure to give that a good washing too.
Window Treatments
Curtains and blinds have lots of folds and creases, which can accumulate a lot of dust without it being terribly visible. Now is the time for a total de-dusting of your window treatments, so don't be afraid to take everything down and really do a deep clean. Scrub your blinds in the sink or bathtub with a sponge and some mild dish soap, and if your curtains are washing-machine friendly, into the machine they go.
Oven Interior
Not planning on cooking any elaborate meals in the near future? PERFECT! That makes this an ideal time to do an oven cleaning! If you have a range with a self-cleaning oven, you know the cleaning process happens by heating the interior to extreme temperatures. While very effective, this puts a lot of strain on the heating element, so it's generally not a good idea to do a self-cleaning cycle when the oven is going to be in heavy use anytime soon. If you don't have any big holidays or get-togethers coming up, now's the time to add an oven self-cleaning to your chore list. The best part? You don't actually have to do anything other than turn it on!
Under the Rug
Everyone's heard the saying about “sweeping dirt under the rug,” and hopefully you've never made a habit of doing this in your living space, but have you ever actually checked under there?! You may be surprised by the amount of dust, dirt, and other debris that ends up trapped beneath a rug with no escape. Roll back your rugs and giving the floor beneath a good vacuum and mopping. Even though you rarely see under them, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing your rugs are resting on a floor that's sparkling clean.
This year, be spring-cleaning ambitious and tackle these extra tasks! We promise it's worth it, especially when you're all finished and basking in the splendor of a beautifully-clean home!
