Our house has never been cleaner!
We’ve had the DysonGen5detect for about a month. By far the best vacuum we’ve ever had. Being cordless allows for easy maneuvering. The laser beam light makes it easy to see where dirt is. I never realized how much dust, sand and hair accumulates on our bare floors. I’ve become obsessed with vacuuming. It’s not only great on bare floors, but does a great job on our area carpets. I never realized how much dirt and hair was imbedded in those area rugs. The different attachments are easy to remove and attach. Although very pricey, it is well worth the money.

I’ve had my vacuum a few weeks and I could never go back to my old vacuum. I’m appalled at the filth that I must have been living in given the amount of particles that were picked up in one pass after vacuuming and mopping several days beforehand. I actually enjoy vacuuming now. It’s so easy and effective. No more messing with bags or difficult to empty canisters. The green light on the fluffy attachment shows exactly where I’ve been and where I need to go next. I honestly had so much dirt that I didn’t even know about.

READ THIS…. Then Decide
It’s expensive, yes…. BUT do it . We have small kids & cleaning is an everyday (could be all day) thing. This vacuum makes cleaning fun. The filtration is top notch down to a single microbe. The battery life is very solid. Tried all attachments and have used dozens of times, no tangles to remove and no hiccups. The suction is incredible so don’t worry if you can only use eco mode on your rugs. Hard floor/ no issue. Cleaning & maintenance/easy access and nothing much to do. I take pride in this wand . This isn’t sponsored but honestly I’ve never imagined being as excited for a top notch vacuum as I was buying a next gen gaming console. DO IT. Do you want the best clean? Do you want to see what type of particles and grime you sucked up? Do you want the best ? No regrets right …. Get this. I went from low budget vacs to 1 Dyson that was okay (corded/bulky). THIS is a deal. Get it and I bet you’ll look forward to cleaning and realize it’s really parallel to the marketing ploys.

Rethinking My Boston Terrier!
Not really but close!! I cannot believe the dander this device picks up! Now I vacuum frequently using my Roomba and house vac. I was astonished by the results re-vacuuming with the Dyson gave me and I’m still not down to “clean” yet on all of my space rugs. You can’t see this stuff but boy is it there. I am so happy I found this device.

This is the best vacuum that I have owned and I have had several over the years. Light weight, nice tools and easy to use. We all have to clean - so why not clean with a vacuum that actually does what it is supposed to do. The HEPA filter really works, my home smells fresh and clean after vacuuming. A little pricey. So far I love my Dyson!

Vacuuming a Fun Experience? Yes!
I am very pleased with my new Dyson Gen5detect. We had a friend’s dog with us for several days and after they left I brought out the Dyson using the fluff roller and I was amazed to see so much on the floor that I didn’t see- the light showed crumbs, dog hair, miscellaneous stuff that could only be noticed with the light ! It was amazing to see the vacuum container fill. I enjoy cordless vacuuming- so easy to manouever around furniture. It’s worth every penny. I appreciate the videos too- I have a lot to learn and the videos let me learn easily.

Best vacuum I ever owned . After carpet was vacuumed . I re did it with Dyson. It got up a large amount of more dust. On floors light is great at showing all the otherwise invisible dirt. Well worth the money

So powerful
I chose the smaller model instead of Outsize because I live in a studio so Detect fits in almost all corners of my small apt. It's very powerful... This is on a different topic, but I had an issue with fruit flies this week and so far the most effective way to catch them is to use this vacuum in power mode.

Great vacuum, bought stand to hang it on but wish it would stand on its own, otherwise, a great vacuum! Soooo glad theres a power button now, wish dyson included an order form to show and offer replacement filters etc but so far, im really liking this gen5detect! Oh, would like a service center closer to me and 1 in connecticut too!

This one provides more power, extended battery life. The hardwood roller with laser is a great addition that enables deeper cleaner. The laser light allows to locate more dirt before. The replacement battery allows more flexibility for extended operation , storage and easy of use. This vacuum is highly recommended.

None of the others compared to my Dyson’s. When I got the Gen5Detect, I ecstatic. I was so excited to see how they could improve on the greatest vacuum on the market. They did not disappoint. It’s quieter than older models, longer lasting battery life, an integrated crevice tool, & now a new power button. These are just a few of the new improvements they have made with this vacuum. I bought my first Dyson many years ago and would not consider ever buying any other vacuum by any other company.

This is the one to get
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using the Dyson V15 Detect for a while and was offered the opportunity to try out the Gen5Detect, so I jumped at the chance.
Who needs instructions when you can just dig right in? The Gen5 is already partially charged out of the box so I could start vacuuming right away...but wait, what happened to the trigger, it's gone! Oh, I see, now there's a button above the display that turns the machine on and off. That's different, and as I've gotten more familar, I have found it to be much easier to use without the power trigger.
I've been using the Gen5 in auto mode, meaning the device adjusts it's rate of speed based on the level of dirt it is encountering. It seems to work well, compensating nicely as I go over areas of the carpet. With the display, you can see real time the particles it is picking up. It's very cool to see if you are a data freak, but at the end of the day you just want your carpet clean.
There are some "gee whiz" cool things with this vacuum, such as the build in dusting and crevice tool. This way you don't have to go back to your vacuum tool set in the middle of vacuuming; this is a new feature of this vacuum and very cool, although it does mean this unit is a little heavier than the previous generation. You'll also see when your floor is clean as the display will show you all green bars on the particle types when it's not picking up anything.
This unit also includes a HEPA filter which is supposed to trap the littlest of things. It is difficult for me to actually prove it is better than a 'regular' filter but in this world we'll take any enhancement we can get to stop mites and anything else!
The product I received had a carpet cleaning head and a bare floor head which has a laser that shows you the dirt. It is a cool feature and you can see dirt better with it than without it although it is important to note the last model had the ability to turn off the laser but this model does not have that option. (I always had it on anyway, but just a heads up to those who had the previous model).
The unit itself is approximately the same size as the previous one, however with a different sized battery pack, it means if you had the stand up dock before, you'll need a new one for this model. If you had your previous one attached to the wall, it looks like you can slide out the old base for the new one, so you may be in better shape, although it's important to note that I just eyeballed the old and the new and did not actually affix it to the wall to check.
If you are new to Dyson vacuums, you are in for a treat. The fact it is cordless and bagless is very much appreciated, full charges are claimed to give up to 60 minutes. I've never run out of battery when doing my house (multiple floors) but the time on the display usually starts around 50 and drops depending on the amount of power used.
The vacuum is light, does what I need it to do, and lives up to the Dyson reputation. Fans of the product that are upgrading from a recent purchase may still be happy with what they have, especially when you'll have to repurchase accessories again like the dock you'll have to ask is it worth the full cost for the one button on and hepa upgrades, but if you want the absolute best in market cordless vacuum as of this writing, this is the one to get.

You can see the crumbs or hair on the floor, which works in a bright or dimly lit room. The machine suction auto adjusts and preserves the battery life. The built-in crevice tool makes dusting window seals or furniture easy and convenient. This is the most refined Dyson vacuum I've ever owned.

Can't stop vacuuming!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We got the Dyson Generation 5 Detect just in time for moving day into our newly rented townhouse. Even though we were assured the carpet was professionally cleaned before moving in and it looked fine, we decided to go over it with our new vacuum before setting up furniture. It picked up so much dirt and debris that we're not at all convinced that it was actually cleaned before we moved in. We had to empty the bin after nearly every room! Watching the particle count as I vacuum is fascinating, and I love that it automatically increases suction when it detects a high number of particles.
As much as we loved that our new vacuum told us when our floors were actually as clean as we originally thought they were, I was most excited to try the Fluffy Optic cleaner head on our hard floors. It illuminated every speck of dust, even the tiniest ones that I couldn't detect just by looking at the floor. I intended to only vacuum the kitchen to try it out, but it was so satisfying to see all the dust disappear and to know without a doubt that I wasn't missing any spots that I couldn't stop! I eventually made myself stop just so my partner would have some dust left to try it out for himself. After vacuuming the hard floors in only two rooms that just looked like they had a little debris in normal daylight, we had a particle count of nearly 15 million of the tiniest particles!

Amazing

The laser is extremely bright and it’s very quiet but so strong picks up everything which I love and it adapts to different dust areas. I have the V12 slim detect and I feel like it’s a huge upgrade. I love the new built in attachment and the colors on the Gen 5 the the battery life is awesome I was able to clean a 1500sqft apt on one charge. It comes with so many attachments for almost any cleaning situation involving vacuuming. Highly recommend. It also looks good to hang in an open area I feel like it’s a conversation piece.

Amazing Vacuum!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is, without a doubt, the most powerful cordless vacuum that I have ever used. The suction power is unmatched, and the automatic suction adjustment, which can be quickly turned on/off, simultaneously maximizes cleaning power and battery life. The vacuum is easily maneuverable on carpet and hard floors, and converts almost effortlessly to a hand-held vacuum for furniture, shelves, nooks and crannies, and cleaning the car. The green laser is great at helping find dust and debris on the floor, and emptying the dust bin is quick and easy. The data counts on dust and debris are mind-blowing and reinforce that the vacuum not only picks up the lint, fuzz, pet hair, etc. that you can see, but also that it is also trapping the allergens and other tiny microscopic debris that are not even visible to the naked eye. While it is a little heavier than my V8 Absolute, it is still every bit as maneuverable, and the increased heft is definitely worth the extra power, battery life and features! I think the best feature is that you do not have to hold down a trigger to keep it running. All you have to do is simply push the button to start it and push the button again to stop it. I also really like the built-in crevice tool. Overall, this cordless vacuum lives up to Dyson's well-deserved reputation for innovation and quality, and I am thrilled with the features and performance!!

Powerful!!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] To preface, I vacuum A LOT. I have dogs and I vacuum daily, sometimes more than once and I honestly sort of enjoy it... This vacuum is really powerful for being a cordless, compact machine. My old vacuum is a V10 which I already thought was great, but man this thing really dips deep!!! It picks up so much fine dirt that it's pretty mind-blowing. I could tell the difference between this and my V10 immediately, it is noticeably stronger!
It's a bit heavier than my older model but good thing this one has an on/off button rather than the old trigger you have to constantly hold. Makes the added weight much less noticeable. I also love the laser, it reveals alot more than I anticipated. I didn't think I needed a vacuum head with a laser until I got it.... The hepa filter is also great. I have a dyson air purifier and when it's on "auto" it usually kicks on when I'm vacuuming. But not anymore.
This one also has bars to show you when something is clean. I'm torn on how useful these are! I have mostly hard floors with some area rugs. The bars turn green on the hard floors fairly quickly which is reassuring, but the laser is also reassuring. I have a big long fibered area rug that hasn't been properly cleaned in a long while. I can't get the bars to turn green on that thing which doesn't surprise me. (I have two dogs, i don't need the bars to know it needs a professional cleaning). So, where the bars do change to green (hard floors) I would already feel reassured my floors are clean via the laser. But the bars won't turn green on the rug, soooo I wouldnt say it's useful. I am curious how those bars would fare and how useful they would be if I had new rugs or got my rug cleaned.... until then, the bars are a cool idea but they aren't changing the way I vacuum.
The battery life is good and the auto mode that changes depending on floor type, filth level is also such a nice feature! I haven't even used it outside of auto because it's smart enough to detect what you need, why change it!
Overall though the vacuum is really great and I have no gripes with it! I am LOVING how powerful it is. I love the laser. I love the screen, it has so much info which is such a luxury. I definitely recommend this vacuum to anyone. Whether your space is big or small, pets, kids, I can't imagine that this vacuum couldn't handle it.

Gen 5 Detect Features
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using the Gen 5 Detect now for about a week, and while I initially thought that I was getting the new machine for the increased suction and the larger bin while the laser built into its head was just a gimmick, that I wasn't going to use much, I was definitely wrong and the laser makes vacuuming both more fun and more satisfying. Being able to see the dust and, in my case black labrador hair in advance and then disappearing into the machine is pretty awesome.
Additionally, not having the trigger on the machine I initially thought I'd miss but it is actually nicer to have the button to press on the back of the unit where you also get the display that shows you the breakdown of dust being sucked into the machine by the micron size.
Seeing the display flash at the end of the different sizes of the particles sucked up is also oddly satisfying.
The machine included a great surprise that the crevice tool is now integrated into the tube, so you can quickly swap from vacuuming the floor to getting into the crevice on the couch without having to go back and get a new attachment. It is also great to have the HEPA filter with the machine. When vacuuming with an older machine you'd start to smell a little of the dust particles in the hair while using. No picking up any smell. Seems like all of the particles are being trapped in the Hepa filter.
Extremely happy so far with the Gen 5 Detect and would highly recommend it.

Easy Yet Powerful Cleaning Tool

This device is easy to assemble and easy to operate yet is quite effective in picking up an impressive amount of pet hair. Since it is cordless and lightweight yet powerful, it is also very helpful in cleaning carpet treads on the stairs and for use on couches and chairs. I was astonished at the amount of debris it picked up even on areas I thought were clean. Highly recommended!

Powerful deep-cleaning vacuum with HEPA filter
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the Dyson Gen5detect for a few days now and I have a lot to say about it. As a cleaning machine, it is exceptional. The impressive suction power and the bright laser light that illuminates even the tiniest dust particles have made a significant difference for my hardwood floors and carpets. It has truly transformed my cleaning routine. The built-in crevice tool has also been incredibly useful for reaching those hard-to-access spots.
I must give a special mention to the new battery design. It is slim, long-lasting, and provides me with over an hour of cleaning time in Eco mode. Additionally, the vacuum is equipped with a HEPA filter, which Dyson claims can remove 99.99% of particles. This gives me and my family peace of mind, knowing that even the smallest dust particles are being captured.
As a previous user of the Dyson Cyclone V10, I have also noticed several design improvements that enhance the overall cleaning experience with the Gen5detect. Great machine
I bought this about 1 month ago. This vacuum replaced a V5 (if I remember correctly).
I like the vacuum, it has a lot of power but I find it too bulky and too heavy.
I will keep it, it gets the job done, but after using it for 15-20 minutes I have to take a break!
