A functional unit
The unit does a very good job at lowering the humidity in the finished basement area. I appreciate the built-in drain pump which eliminates the need for periodic emptying of the water bucket. The only issue is I've had to replace the unit every two years. It just stops functioning. U'm grateful for the extended warranty.

Very helpful for humid conditions

This has been a fantastic dehumidifier for our basement. It is very effective and not terribly loud. But it’s also in the basement, so I’m not sure how noticeable it would be in a living space. It has an auto shut off when it gets full to prevent overflow.

Must have for big home!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been having an awful humidity problem in my bedroom and bought a dehumidifier that was good for 250 sq. ft. It took 5 days to fill the 1 liter tank and it never brought the humidity level down more than 1 or 2 points. So I started looking for a bigger unit and came across this one. It had several features that I was looking for including the ability to preset the unit to a desired humidity level. It’s a lot more than I needed for just my bedroom but it does what I want it to do and I can use it elsewhere in my house if the need arises. Very easy to set up. I plugged it in, set the humidity level and turned it on. With in 20 minutes my room went from 75% humidity to 60%. The tank filled up really quickly and I had to empty it twice within 12 hours but you can also make this so it drains continuously through a hose if you don’t want to bother with having to empty the tank so often. Now that the humidity is controlled, it only needs to be emptied once a day. It has an auto shut off feature when the tank is full. It has a timer so you can have it come on at a preset time and maybe my favorite feature is that the lights on the display can be shut off so it doesn’t disturb your sleep. It’s on wheels so it’s pretty easy to move, the tank that collects the water is super easy to remove and replace and the noise is comparable to a fan or air conditioner.

Good quality and effective dehumidifier
Efficient and easy to set up. Gets the job done and is relatively quiet. Really does pump condensation out of an upper level drain set up.

Solid performance
An impressive dehumidifier. Works flawlessly and is not too loud. Goes on and off to maintain the humidity you desire. The pump is noiseless to remove the water and can even pump upwards to a sink drain.

Bucket is difficult to pull out, handles flimsy
It is fairly quiet, it pulls a lot of water. The tank is large, a little difficult to pull out, and heavy when you lift it out. The handle is flimsy and today came out of their sockets.

Good but did not last past 4 years
I bought the Model D70BPA 4 years ago and the control top console broke, sort off caved in so that pressing the different functions no longer worked.

Good machine that did not last.
An excellent machine that performed well. Unfortunately it only lasted two summers before it died. Luckily I bought a 5 year warranty. P.C. Richards replaced it without question.

Didn’t last very long
Drain pump stopped working after about 1.5 years and the rest of the unit just died completely after about 3 years. It was used in a damp basement. Wouldn’t buy again.

Terrible customer service
Don't buy a Friedrich dehumidifier. Their customer service is terrible. Just a month after the one year full warranty expired, my unit stopped working. It showed an error code. I looked through the owner's manual and found no list of what error codes represented. So, I searched online and still found nothing. I called customer service and was told they don't have that information. I was insisting several times to speak with a manager when the agent finally came back on the line and told me the error code represented a failed compressor and that there was a 2 year warranty on compressors so it would be covered. First of all, after spending plenty of money to buy what I thought was a good brand, how can the compressor already fail?
Then they told me to hire a service technician to make a "diagnosis". In other words, this was still going to cost me plenty before I got any service from them.
I emailed back and forth with a customer care case worker and stated I didn't want to pay for a service for them to tell me what we already know from the error code. I felt strung along and finally I'm giving up. I will not give them one more cent to end up with an inferior product. My advis find another brand!

Friedrich Dehumidifier Failed Early
This item failed at just over a year, and that is with having not used it in the winter. PC Richard said it is "past contract and warranty," so I need to call Friedrich. I called Friedrich, and am working with them to see if / how it can be repaired, or a solution. None of the appliance repair people they suggested would touch it, saying they are often not worth attempting to repair.

Excellent……but did not last
This unit looks great, is easy to use, quiet and performs well BUT at the start of the third year it was no longer working. Took it to Friedrich authorized service center and was told the compressor failed and the super honest technician told me that he’s seen dozen of these units already fail because of cheaply made Chinese components. So my advice to you is to look at another brand or if you have your heart set on this one to get an extended warranty.

Unit works great then pump fails
About to return the unit I got last year which replaced a unit from a year eailer which was also a replacement for the first one I bought. . Units works great dehumidifying but the pumps keep failing.

Built in pump broke within 1 year
I bought this just over 1 year ago as I don’t have a drain in my basement and need a way to pump the water up and out. Within 1 year my pump stopped working and now I am required to manually empty the pan. The actual dehumidifier works great and has a very simple interface. Just the drain pump breaking. There’s nothing in the manual addressing this. When you call Friedrich the answer I get is “we don’t have technical support,” and essentially they just sell a product with no insight on how to address problems. If you’re cool with that and emptying the pan every day this is the item for you.

Drain pan is flimsy plastic and cumbersome to use
I should have seen a floor model because the drain pan is very flimsy and tough not to spill when removing it. I would only purchase this model if you intend to automatically drain the water into a sump drain or pump it. It’s as if this model was really not intended to be used with the drain pan.
