Loud compressor, temp sensor sucks, slow service
I’ve had this AC for about a month, in Manhattan NYC in a pre-war apartment on the 5th floor. Compressor is unbelievably loud. Called PC Richard customer service and they scheduled a first HVAC contractor bailed on looking at and fixing it. Having to wait several more weeks for an alternative contractor to see it. You aren’t allowed to return AC units once you take it out of the box, so if I can’t get the compressor to be reasonable I’m stuck with it. That’s just kinda cruel. So hard to sleep with it, it’s just so loud. Also the fan noise is not quiet at all either, it’s a wall unit so fan noise is expected to be a bit louder than wall units, but whew it’s really loud even at the lowest speed. The temperature sensor is right next to the cold intake fins so you’ll have super wide temperature swings. Your room will be 10 degrees or more above what you set the AC to and then once it’s finally cold enough near the find it’ll start cooling and once it sucks in the hot room air it’ll detect a more accurate temperature so it runs literally forever. It doesn’t even cool your room to the temperature you set, the fins just end up getting ice cold so the temperature sensor falsely thinks the room is at the temp you set. First months energy bill in June with it was $115 above normal. It’ll be even worse in July, probably $150 or $175 above normal. That’s with the temp set at 74F. Yes, 74F, pretty reasonable. Friedrich claims it’s like $60 PER YEAR or something to run it, not sure how they could possibly achieve anything remotely like it. I’ve used up almost two years of energy in one month according to them lol. I was able to connect the AC to WiFi and use their app for temperature adjustment but it only actually syncs with the AC maybe 20% of the time. I’ll try to change the temp and it supposedly updates the AC but nothing changes, I’ll close and reopen the app and try again and nothing. For a $1200 list price AC this is really just absolutely unacceptable, but I’m stuck with it because of PC Richard’s 19th century return policy. If you can, I’d recommend purchasing ACs from other retailers.
