This versatile fitness companion strikes an impressive balance between serious athletic features and everyday wearability. The sleek, lightweight design transitions seamlessly from workouts to workdays, while the bright AMOLED display remains clearly visible in any lighting condition. Athletes particularly value the precise multi-sport tracking and detailed training insights, backed by reliable GPS and comprehensive mapping for outdoor adventures. The extended battery life, lasting up to two weeks, eliminates charging anxiety and enables consistent activity and sleep monitoring. While the interface may take time to master, the thoughtful combination of touch and button controls proves reliable in all conditions. The built-in LED light, though seemingly simple, has become an unexpectedly essential feature for many users' nighttime activities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 970 Is Not a Watch — It’s a Weapon I’ve used a lot of running watches over the years, and I can honestly say the Forerunner 970 is on a completely different level. This isn’t just an upgrade — it feels like Garmin finally put everything serious runners actually need into one device without compromising comfort or usability. From the first run, you can tell this watch was built for performance. The data isn’t just impressive — it’s actionable. Training load, readiness, HRV trends, recovery insights, race predictions — everything feels purposeful. It’s not just throwing numbers at you; it actually helps you make smarter decisions about your training. The build quality is excellent. It’s lightweight, comfortable for long runs, and the display is crisp and easy to read in any condition. It feels premium without being bulky. Battery life is outstanding — I don’t have to think about charging constantly, which is a huge plus when you’re training consistently. The training experience is seamless. Structured workouts are intuitive, intervals are easy to follow, and long runs feel fully supported by the metrics. It genuinely feels like having a performance lab on your wrist. The ECG feature is also a great addition — it adds an extra layer of health awareness without complicating the core running functionality. Overall, this watch is not just for tracking miles — it’s a serious performance tool. If you’re committed to improving and training with intention, the Forerunner 970 absolutely delivers. I would buy it again without hesitation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Premier watch for runners. I run roughly 20-25 miles a week. I’m working my way up toward a marathon so hopefully by next year I will be there. My previous watch was Garmin EPX GEN two, and before that was an apple ultra watch. Both farming watches were tough a lot accurate. This one has a beautiful screen, you can text and call from it, it has a couple more other focused matrix, such as running tolerance and rucking. It also has the EKG feature as well. The battery life is so much better than an Apple Watch. Both Garmin watches were roughly 15 days but I would charge it for about 10 to 15 minutes a day while I was showering and I never had any issues. The main reason I got this watch and upgraded was also for rucking. I was torn between a Fenix 8 vs Forerunner 970 due to durability. However, I’m very thankful I went with this watch because you can barely feel it on your wrist despite it’s size. Both the Fenix 8 and 970 have the sapphire screen, but the 970 has a lighter frame. Overall, I’m extremely pleased with this watch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A runner's best friend! Have been using Garmin watches for 20 years now. This is the best running watch I've owned, bar none. Lightweight, durable, with a brilliant OLED face. Data sets are intuitive and customizable, GPS is quick and accurate, and data transfer is seamless. Intended for the more seasoned runner. Hits all the marks. Bravo, Garmin!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always impressed with each new evolution. This is my 5th Garmin Forerunner, beginning with a Forerunner 305 in 2010. I've continued to be impressed with the improvements found in each generation. This latest model has far more features than I would have ever anticipated when I started using them years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I have had my Garmin 970 for a couple weeks now and love it! I had the apple watch for many years and have been saving for this watch and it was well worth it! I'm still learning all the features but I have to say I'm using the flashlight on it daily. That is so handy to have in the middle of the night. I mainly wanted it for the fitness and sleep tracking. I can actually track my sleep now since the battery life on the Garmin watch is amazing. The apple watch needs to be charged every night so sleep tracking was difficult. Long story short, if you're on the fence, get one. You won't regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than satisfied I bought this about 3 weeks ago. I am very happy with it. It was an upgrade from my 265. I was weary at first with the price jump but I decided to bite the bullet. It has more features and is worth the jump if you are serious about distance running for the long term.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Watch! I love this watch for it's ease of use. The downside (if you can call it that) is that it gives you the feeling of being in an emotionally abusive relationship. You'll have the best run of your life and the watch will say that you need more sleep, you're under-performing and you likely have a crooked smile. Overall, 10/10. I love the watch. Easy to use and integrates well with my Apple phone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best watch ever just simple enough to learn how to use it. love that its display is nice and bright. much more sleek and less bulky on my wrist compared to my fenix 7. overall love it and would totally recommend to anyone triathalon training or just wanting a sleek everyday sports watch. i had my fenix for just over 4 years and i will continue to use it for bigger adventures but i love having this one as my everyday wear. love garmin!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fantastic upgrade! I wore a Fenix 6S Pro for years and just updated to the Forerunner 970. Love the features, the new heart sensor is great and the additional training data is helpful. Very happy with my purchase!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Generational Leap Forward I brought my Forerunner 970 in Taiwan while on a work trip, upgrading from my 945. It feels like I just gone through a leap in time, the new OLED display is crisp and bright, had to turn down the brightness for my daily usage. Discovering the included speaker was another fun surprise. PROs: Battery life, Flashlight, and OLED display, everything else are just icing on the cake. CONs: Only able to use purchased country's Transportation Card.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One stop shop As someone who is an everything apple guy. I’m telling you it’s ok ti ditch your Apple Watch lol. The 970 looks good but most importantly it’s accurate and almost never needs a charge. Anybody who’s serious about their stats needs this watch. You’ll never have to pull out your phone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Version of the Forerunner yet! This is the best version of the Forerunner yet. The band is a significant upgrade in that it's a bit stiffer than in the past and stays in place better. Also love the sapphire screen and titanium bezzle, it keeps the watch from getting dinged and scrated up when you are as active as most endurane athletes are. The buttons are also an upgrade as they feel more crip and you get great feedback when you press them. Well done Garmin!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stats! Love my Forerunner 970! Got it for Christmas and was able to train the last few weeks with it before my first marathon, loved having to run the marathon and all the stats pre and post marathon to track my recovery! Excited to keep training and get more stats!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Training Features I bought this watch three weeks ago after using the COROS Pace Pro, and the Forerunner 970 is on another level. Compared to the Pace Pro, it offers far more advanced training features. This watch is clearly built with triathletes in mind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This watch is the best. Use it for running, trails, and hiking. The flashlight feature is great. The battery life is about a week and half of solid use. Only thing I've notice is the band. 5 is a bit tight and 6 is just too loose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this watch. I use it for everything. From walks and hikes to rock climbing, kayaking, snowboarding and more. It does more than I could ever need it to and everything I DO need! Battery life is great, charge once every other week or so. Love the addition of the flashlight and sapphire screen on this model!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does everything for a serious athlete Great battery life, pretty much all the features, good look and feel, light, etc. UX is a little bit clunky and some of the things are confusing, It takes some time to learn. The touchscreen can be problematic sometimes. However, even with all those issues, after using it for a while, you get used to it and it becomes an excellent daily driver.
Date published: 2026-01-07
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should have bought it sooner! Coming from the Fenix 6 I was worried about its durability and battery life. Both of which I am not worried about anymore. The touchscreen is super easy to operate, and responds well even on water.
