Love the updated version!
This is the third opal nugget machine that I have owned. The other two were the basic model with side tank. I love the New model with the sanitizer and the better filter. I live in Florida and the water here is so bad! So having that sanitizer that I can run at least once a week is great on top of the normal cleaning function.

Great features!
I love everything about this machine. It works great, the ice is chewable and works well with any beverage. It lets me know when I need to change the filter, descale or anything else. I also love the color and magnetic scoop.

Love the ice! Hate the cleaning
Love the ice—been steady making ice for 5 months now. It’s quality chick-filet style ice. Only downside is it needs to be cleaned weekly and descaled once a month if you want to properly maintain it. This involves running a solution through it once and then running a rinse cycle 3 more times. So consider that in your purchase.

Great crushed icemaker!
Great ice maker that doesn't take up much space. Easy to install and operate. The crushed ice is perfect! My only issue is with the instructions. After initially cleaning and rinsing, it says to fill internal reservoir first, then the side tank. When I did this properly, the side tank pushed water all over the counter and cabinets as the internal tank partially fills the bottom of the side tank receptacle. It should say to fill the side tank first, then place onto the unit, THEN fill the internal reservoir. We still love it!

Great unit
[Employee of ge_appliances] The ice maker works wonderful. Wish we bought earlier as we use it all the time. The extra side tank help from having to refill the water level more frequently. The unit was a little bigger than expected but well within the space it was planned for.

Design is improving
This would be our 4th machine over a 12 year period. We have been using these since before “Opal” was bought by GE and they took over branding them in their name. We opted for this new ULTRA model because of the new extra filtration and cleaning updates/upgrades (plus the compressor conked-out in our 3 year old 2.0). Reason the other models failed in the past is because we didn’t stay up on 100% cleaning the critical INTERNAL parts. WE DID EVERYTHING (and more) the manual and website (and some blogs out there) called for But in all fairness, GE needs to provide a far more in-depth process to clean out the mold and scaling that will inevitably build up no matter how many times you use bleach or descaling liquid or vinegar (you need to actually clean these internal parts by hand). There are a few good YouTube videos out there that show you how, but GE needs to STEP UP and OWN this.
The new Ultra itself is sleeker than the previous, we like the new black color and the few tweaks made to the design here and there. We just got the new one up and running this afternoon, so we’ll see how it goes.

Great product very convenient and reliable requires some maintenance but not too much to handle. Really recommend this product for all the ice eater or those who use ice daily this is the perfect product for you. It makes ice on demand whether it’s told or it detects the ice bucket getting low it begins to make ice to refill ice storage.

Opal 2.0 Ultra with Side Tank is an awesome design
I just love the Opal 2.0 Ultra Ice Maker! So far it is very quiet and that Side Tank is the best part of the ice maker. It never runs out of water since I can see the level now. Of course, the ice quality is top-notch!

Good Ice!
[Employee of ge_appliances] I've only had it setup for 5 days...So Far - So Good - No issues connecting to Wi-Fi. Ice bin holds a good amount of ice, producing it in a timely manner. It's not too loud, basically a small fan running. Like the light feature and being able to brighten/dim/turn off. Descaling feature is why I chose this model.

My greatest find of the YEAR!!
I love that it has WIFI connectivity. It's very quiet compared to others I've had and it gives me the choice to have a night light in my kitchen. I love the way it looks. It starts producing ice within ten minutes of connecting it. It was very easy to setup. It filters the water two different ways. It makes about 3 lbs of ice. I highly recommend it.

Very Convenient but Not Inexpensive
Owned 4 months, this Opal ice maker has worked well. If you are considering one, buy it for the convenience of having ice handy and in a very useful form: the small cubes cool drinks quickly and eliminate the need to deal with ice trays, store bought bags or in-door refrigerator ice makers with limited lifespans. Most users won't save money vs. store bought ice. My technique: fill the reservoir with distilled water (tap water allows mineral residue to build up, requiring a special cleaning routine), run the ice maker for 2 to 3 hours, scoop the cubes into plastic sandwich bags and freeze them. (The cubes will freeze together, but 1 or 2 sharp raps against the kitchen counter breaks them apart for good.) Drain the Opal until next use. Noise level after startup (3 or 4 minutes) is quiet: low enough to converse with the Opal a few inches away without raising your voice.

Love my ice maker
I love my ice maker! My husband got it for me for Christmas and it’s everything I imagined it to be! Tons of fresh chewy ice and constantly making more. I’m so happy with how well it works and how pretty it is! I got the color sandstone.

Easy setup!
Love it. Just got it installed today, 1-17-26. Easy to follow instructions. The only thing I would change is putting instructions on how install the filter with the initial setup. I had everything set up and the basin was half full of ice before I realized the filter should’ve been installed. All in all, pleased with the result!

Super Fast!
As a big ice eater, I love my sonic ice so when i received this as a Christmas gift I was thrilled. Setup was so quick and easy. I thought it would take a day or so to start really making ice but literally within 10 minutes the first few pieces dropped. I use distilled water to help with keeping the machine from needing so much cleaning and descaling. I can't say enough about is because so far it's great. It's also beautiful and looks great in my kitchen.

Great buy
I have been wanting a Nugget Ice Maker for so long, this did not disappoint. It constantly makes ice and it does so fast, you can have ice within 30 minutes. It is a bit noisy but doesn't bother me, it is just as loud as a refrigerator . I use distilled water so my water always taste good.
