The Sharp SMD2489ES is the first, built-in Microwave Drawer with wifi connectivity for seamless integration with your modern, smart home. Download the Sharp Kitchen app to enable the smart features.
The SMD2489ES Sharp Microwave Drawer features Built-In Airflow venting. Now you can choose the traditional "proud mount" installation or flush mounting for a streamlined finish without additional trim-kits or vent deflectors.
With our Easy Wave Open feature for touchless operation, simply wave up-and-down near the motion sensor and the Microwave Drawer will glide open. With the touch of a button or a gentle nudge, our patented Easy Touch Automatic Drawer System smoothly closes the oven to avoid messy spills. The SMD2489ES Sharp Microwave Drawer stays closed when you walk by, so children and pets won't accidentally open it.
The concealed, glass, Touch Control panel is easy-to-see and operate at a convenient 45° angle, keeping all of the controls at your fingertips when you need them, and completely out of sight when you don't. The modern, edge-to-edge, black glass and stainless steel design with bright, LED interior lighting and stylish floor pattern compliments your kitchen and pairs beautifully with other stainless steel appliances.

Sticking issue
Tilt out panel is a great step forward but the latch needs refinement in that it often require several pushes to get it to release. Otherwise the oven works as expected.

Great Oven Needs Tweaks.
Great oven. Could use some engineering twists such as fixing the closing/opening mechanism for the control panel. We've has technicians out twice and it seems to be working, but we lost the "hand wave" capability to open the drawer in the process. The oven itself works well, but if you can't open the control panel, you can't use the oven.

Control panel is stubborn.
You have to press the control panel very firmly in the exact center to get it to open. Closing is not any easier. Fingerprints are very noticeable unfortunately.
The reheat sensor is not accurate. It overheats.
I can't comment on how it operates as I've only had it working for 2 days.
Looks nice.

I don't see the benefit of the wave feature as you still need to close the drawer with your hand. And the tilt out control panel is in the way. It is awkward and I miss my old microwave.

Technical deficiencies
I have two issues with this microwave. 1) the drawer starts and stops too abruptly which could easily cause spills. 2) motion activated opening of the drawer is kind of useless. You still need to open a top panel by pushing it to control the thing. So, if the point of the motion activated opening is to avoid finger spots on the stainless steel panel, then they implemented it backwards. The control panel should have been motion activated, not the drawer. Or, better yet, they should have done two different motions to open the control panel and drawer.

Purchased in 2018 for a newly remodeled kitchen. I was so excited about this microwave oven, but excitement was short lived. Unfortunately oven is only 950 watrs, so obviously food takes longer to heat up. However, I did still love it in spite of that short coming. Now, in 2023 my dream microwave died and parts are not available to repair it. What's worse is I must buy new drawer style oven to fit in the hole in my cabinet! Well, here's the kicker.. Sharp makes all microwave drawers.....

Looks nice but wave function does not work
This microwave looks really sleek in the cabinet. However, for an extra $100 I expect the wave function to work. It will randomly open but never when you actually wave it so I turn the function off. Save yourself the extra money and get the one without wave function.

Way too overpriced to not have integration with the 2nd and 3rd most popular home controls (google home and apple homekit)
Didn't realize this until after installing, would have returned it otherwise.
Wifi setup was also the most convoluted connection process out of any smart appliance I have ever set up.

The keypad light for drawer microwave is out, so I can't see what I enter. Nothing shows anymore as of today, clock, etc. Drawer does open and light is on there. Appears to still work... but keypad out
