Does this need to be vented and do I need to purchase the pedestal also?
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to assist you. The Sharp SMD2499FS 24-inch Smart Convection Microwave Drawer does not require external venting and comes with built-in airflow control, allowing for a flush mount or traditional installation.

What are the specifications other than 24" wide? Am I correct in assuming that Sharp will acknowledge and correct the problems with this model? I fortunately have not purchased it (yet).
DO NOT PURCHASE this product. Forget the measurements, the product does not work as advertised: each function microwave, convection and air fryer are underpowered for each usage. There are too many things squeezed into one unit with none of them being fully functional as stand alone units for much less money. Overpriced, under performing stay away!

Let me tell you how to fix this. Make it 30" wide. Use the extra 2750 cubic inches to build the airfryer with a 2500 watt heater. 2500 watts is required for the volume. Then you will have the best microwave on the market and the only 30" with oven/air fry

Does the Sharp CONVECTION MICROWAVE DRAWER SMD2499FS control panel light up?
Yes, but we are very disappointed with this appliance. We wish we would have gone with a simple microwave drawer vs the convection oven and air fry option. Neither of those work very well. The microwave feature is hit and miss as far as cooking time and heat. It was expensive and NOT worth it. We tried to return it but bc it was custom built into our kitchen Reno we would have had to do a lot more than a “switch out”.
