Does the 1.5 inch countertop overhang obstruct the flush mount microwave drawer control panel in anyway when opened?
Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to assist you. The 1.5-inch countertop overhang generally does not obstruct the Sharp SKMD24F0AS microwave drawer when it is opened. The drawer opens outward and down, providing full access to the control panel without hitting a standard-sized overhang. Proper installation requires the unit to be mounted with the face of the drawer positioned to allow clearance.
Installation Note: The flush mount kit requires the mounting surface to be 1 1/16 inches back from the cabinet face, which helps ensure proper clearance.

What does this do? And what will it look like as opposed to not using?
My question exactly. A picture of it installed vs uninstalled would be extremely helpful. The answer you received says it's for ventilation...but the product can be used without it, so what is the main purpose of this, aesthetics or function?
