The Appliance Store Sketch

A washer and dryer with musical notes floating around them

On October 18, 2025, P.C. Richard & Son proudly made its SNL debut as the setting of an appliance store sketch! While we're not holding our breath about our comedy career taking off, we did notice that the sketch raised a few questions about washers and dryers. We, the featured appliance store, are more than happy to answer them!

If my dryer gets my clothes "almost totally dry," what can I do to get them completely dry?

The most common culprit behind this issue is that the dryer is being overloaded. Try lightening your laundry loads so fewer clothes are being dried at a time. Another possibility, if you've got a vented dryer, is that the lint trap needs to be emptied or the duct needs to be cleaned out. For more suggestions, check out our blog article on how to perform dryer maintenance.

What is Permanent Press, anyway?

The somewhat-mysterious Permanent Press cycle is a laundry setting specifically designed to minimize wrinkles in your clothes. Some newer models might use the term "Wrinkle Control" rather than Permanent Press. In the washer, it utilizes warm water and a slow spin to keep your fabrics smooth and uncreased. In the dryer, it means a lower level of heat and a longer cool-down cycle. Please note that, while Permanent Press is a lighter-duty cycle, it's not as gentle as the Delicate cycle, so double check the washing instructions on your clothes for best results.

Have the P.C. Richard & Son team members ever broken into a coordinated dance number like in the sketch?

It's not a common occurrence, but who knows what the future holds?

Which laundry models play fun little jingles when the cycles are done?

The jingles are a very common feature in today's washers, dryers, and all-in-one laundry models. Popular laundry brands like LG, Samsung, and Whirlpool offer a variety of cutting-edge features that of course include fun little jingles at the end of a wash or dry cycle. If you're as particular as the couple in the sketch about end-of-cycle songs on your laundry appliances, visit any P.C. Richard & Son store near you to check out the appliances in person and hear the jingles for yourself!

Will Sabrina Carpenter be performing in any of your stores wearing a washing machine costume?

Um, we'll have to get back to you on that.
