Removing Allergens From Your Bed

A lot of people suffer from seasonal or year-round allergies. If you have allergies, then you no doubt know how difficult it can be to get a good night's rest when you're coughing, sneezing, or wheezing all night long due to the presence of dust, dust mites, pollen, or mold. Fortunately, there is something you can do about it. The National Sleep Foundation recommends washing your sheets and blankets in hot water on a weekly basis to help remove as many allergens as possible. If your pillow is washable, then you can launder it every week as well. Drying your pillows at a high temperature should kill any dust mites that are present. Regularly washing your sheets and pillows is likely to show results. A poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation found that around 75 percent of the respondents experienced a better night's sleep on fresh sheets.

Even though cleaning your sheets every week should help to remove many of the allergens that are affecting your sleep, there are also measures that you can take to prevent allergens from getting into your bed in the first place. The most effective way to do this is by fitting specialized covers around your mattress, box spring and pillows that will seal them and prevent allergens from collecting. There are many mattress and pillow covers to choose from. Not only are they available in different shapes and sizes, but they're available in different types of materials as well, from hypoallergenic to micro-weave fabric, which means that there's no reason not to use them. These are so effective at preventing dust and other allergens from collecting that studies have shown that children with asthma need less medication when their beds use a mattress cover and pillow covers. There's no reason why allergens, such as dust, dirt, and pollen, should be disrupting your sleep. Find the right mattress cover and pillow covers for your bed and sleep better tonight!
