Weber Grilled Apple Crisp

GRILLED APPLE CRISP
This recipe shows the versatility and ease of the grill to be able to bake. Temperature is key to a good apple crisp. This is also a fun recipe to portion out into little ramekins so that everyone gets their own personal sized crisp.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 each Granny Smith Apples, cored and sliced
  • 4 tsp Cinnamon, ground
  • 2 tsp Nutmeg, ground
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar, light
  • Juice of 1 Lemon
  • 2 cup Quick Oats
  • 1 cup Flour, all purpose
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon, ground
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar, light
  • 6 tbsp Butter, unsalted
    *optional serve with vanilla ice cream

GAS/CHARCOAL INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Prepare the grill for 2 zone cooking over medium heat (350 to 400øF). Allow the grill to preheat.
  2. Place sliced apples over direct cooking over medium heat. Grill until soft. Roughly 8 minutes. Remove the apples from the grill and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine first amount of cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar with the lemon juice. Mix well to combine.
  4. Add grilled apples and toss until well coated with spices.
  5. In a separate mixing bowl, combine oats, second amount of cinnamon and brown sugar. Add butter and mix until crumbly.
  6. Place grilled apples in the bottom of the 9" round cake pan. Top apples with oat mixture and cover with foil. Cook for 15 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and cook for additional 6-8 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  8. Remove from the grill and let rest for 5 minutes.
    Serve warm. Ice cream is optional.
SMOKE FIRE INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Set grill temperature to 375øF.
  2. Preheat the grill for 15 minutes & then take a brush and clean the grill grates.
  3. Grill the apples for 4 minutes a side for a total of 8 minutes or until soft.
  4. Remove from the grill and let rest for 5 minutes. Serve warm. Ice cream is optional.
