Alison Prelusky

What do classical music, industrial shop desks, and mobile phone carriers have in common? They're all stepping stones in Alison's career path. She graduated college with a BA in Music from SUNY Fredonia, but went a different way in graduate school by obtaining an MA in English from SUNY Stony Brook. This led her to begin a career in copywriting, and after years of ping-ponging between a musical instrument company, an industrial supply corporation and an MVNO startup, she has happily settled in the appliance world as a copywriter for P.C. Richard & Son. Although she can always be counted on to tighten up paragraphs and correct grammar, blog articles are definitely her favorite type of task.

When not at work, Alison enjoys movies, reading, competitive quizzing, and spending too much money at record stores.

What path has your career taken that's brought you here?

After graduating with my BA, I started working for a musical instrument company as a marketing assistant. This allowed me to flex my writing muscle a bit while gaining some firsthand experience about the marketing world. It was during these years that I went back to school for my MA in English, and soon after I was promoted to Copywriter. Subsequent positions at a variety of different companies allowed me to gain a nice variety of copywriting knowledge, and I still consider every working day to be a learning experience!

Why is working with appliances a good fit for you?

This company carries the kinds of products that are used practically every day of our lives, and it's vitally important to be able to communicate information about them. I enjoy having a role where my main goal is delivering useful facts in a clear and attention-getting way. Beyond that, appliance and electronic technology progresses at an incredible rate, and I appreciate being able to stay on top of the latest and greatest in every field.

In your opinion, what's the most important element for a blog article?

The first building block is a decent set of SEO search terms. Once that's settled, the article has to include valuable information that's also interesting. There are so many factors that go into shopping for the kind of products we sell- especially appliances, which usually come with a commitment of a decade or more- so we want to have plenty of information available to anyone who needs it. Even if a reader doesn't shop with us in that particular instance, they'll remember who gave them the info they needed!

What's the best part about working at P.C. Richard & Son?

Joining a company that's been around for over 100 years is humbling as well as affirming. Technology advances exponentially, and when you work for a company that not only keeps up with it but grows right alongside it, you know you're part of something special.
