Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK Microwave The microwave oven looks beautiful. It is sleek and modern. It cleans up extremely well. We also used the custom installed hardware kit. This unit does well with heating food and beverages. The Convection Oven works well. These are qualities anyone would expect with a microwave/convection oven. The over all interior of the oven is too small, (my fault for not looking this over better) The numbers on the control panel do not light up. Big deal at this house since some work days some work nights, the oven is being used all the time. We try not to disturb each other by turning on the kitchen lights. I do not like the fact that there is not a way to turn off the turn table.( rectangular dishes).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does a lot, but maybe too much? Purchased this microwave in the Platinum Glass finish along with most of the rest of the appliances in the kitchen (Dishwasher, Double Oven, Induction Cooktop, Vent Hood) and installed it in a renovation that we completed at the end of January 2022 . Probably the most beautiful appliance finish on the market. Unfortunately, we recently moved after only getting to use the appliances for about 7 months. We are building a new home, however, and will most likely use most of the same models in the new kitchen. Specifically, about the microwave, we used it exclusively for all of our cooking for the first month and a half because the double oven couldn't be installed due to issues with our cabinets. While it was convenient to cook some things like small pizzas, small servings of chicken wings, fish sticks, etc., while we waited for the installation of the double oven, it was definitely no substitution. Once our double oven was installed, we never used any of the convection features again. Because the oven does so many different things, it doesn't do any of them exceptionally. Convection features: -Took a very long time to pre-heat even after pre-heating -Cooking times were much longer than in a regular oven -Overall capacity is barely adequate to cook food for the 3 of us (1.5 cu ft is definitely adequate as a microwave, just not as a convection oven) let alone when having company over and entertaining. -Cleaning the interior is a beast. We are pretty careful and cover our food when using it as a microwave. But using it as a convection oven, you can't really cover food, so any grease/sauce/liquid that "pops" during cooking and sticks to the cavity surface isn't so easy to wipe off around the various ventilation holes and heating element on the top. As a microwave, and it must be a function of the other features, it's only 1000W instead of the 1100W-1200W range of many models, so even reheating a beverage, leftovers, etc., takes an additional 30-90 seconds, as compared to higher powered models, depending on portion size. And, as mentioned by others, the keys are very difficult to see in dim lighting conditions. We like to have the kitchen lights off at night while watching TV/Movies and don't want to have to turn on the kitchen lights to pop some popcorn, heat up some hot cocoa, etc. Backlighting the keypad would be much appreciated. Would LOVE to see a similar model with a few tweaks: -Same form factor, or even one that could fit into an 18" or 21" deep above-the-counter microwave cabinet and still take the trim kit. -Omit the convection features and make it a stand-alone microwave -1150W-1200W of power with a reliable Inverter cooking system for more uniform cooking at reduced power levels. -KEEP all of the wi-fi connectivity features (LOVE not having to set a clock if a power failure happens or change it at DLST, and scan-to-cook features can come in handy) -Easy Clean interior surface with a magnetic ceiling so that it can hold a magnetized plastic food cover. -Backlit keys.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Microwave The glass front microwave and trim kit looks great. It’s quiet while operating. I am a little disappointed with the size of this microwave for the price. It is also has a convection mode.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but not perfect. The microwave looks good, feels like quality and cooks well. One annoying issue is that you cannot see inside when things are cooking even with the light on. We installed the unit in the wall with a trim kit. The trim kit looks good, but doesn’t exactly match the wall oven that it sits over.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use and cooks great Has worked fine so far but haven't tried all you can do with this great combo microwave and convection. Would be nice to come with some cooking instructions and help on that but overall I very satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice convection microwave Still leaning features but love the convection oven feature. Stainless steel interior looks great but does show splatters more than white interior. Bought trim kit makes it look like double oven but with microwave option. Super choice !

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the finish! Love the look of this microwave. I would have preferred a larger interior and more wattage in the platinum finish; however, Cafe does not offer it at this time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Loose control panel I’ve had my cafe smart microwave for less than 9 months. Whenever I push a button on the control panel the whole panel moves. Is there a fix for this? It seems after less than a year it shouldn’t be malfunctioning.
Date published: 2021-12-28
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not worth the money very difficult to see control panel. No backlighting, lots of glare. Under powered, only 1000W. Convection side works well, very pleased with that function

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cafe Microwave in Platinum Glass The microwave with trim kit is beautiful and so far works wonderfully with one major drawback. The control display is not illuminated upon touch. The options and numbers are almost impossible to read unless you stand on angle with light facing toward the face of the microwave. I understand why the numbers and options should fade away when it's not in use for aesthetics, but functionally it's a drawback when using it. The images before purchasing were misleading because they appear illuminated, but in fact they are not. It's too bad really. For such a nice microwave, this is a disappointing flaw in the design.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Microwave Fails We had the same experience as other remarks in their ratings. The microwave worked great for about three years, then randomly the turn table would start and stop. Then it stopped heating altogether. For the price, I don't think I would ever get a second CAFE microwave. A repairman said they have seen this ALOT. Has there been a fix to this?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product Fails After 3 Years The product was purchased in 2020 and installed beginning of 2021. Worked fine then started to fail about a month ago with the turn table switching on periodically at random. Now the turntable does not work and the microwave does not heat food properly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stopped Working After 2 Years We purchased this microwave with other Cafe appliances when remodeling our kitchen. Just as stated by another reviewer the turntable started to rotate whenever the door was open and a week later the magnetron stopped turning on. Moreover, the microwave never matched out appliances as it was supposed to which I assume was an issue with shipping or supply.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from GE I Expect Better In 2019 we remodeled our kitchen and purchased a collection of cafe appliances - refrigerator, wall oven, microwave, and gas cooktop. The appliances look great in the showroom but don't perform well under typical use. We are a family of three and our daughter has been in college and grad school most of the time we owned them so it is not like we are cooking for a crowd. Like others the microwave stopped working after 2 1/2 years. It started with the turntable rotating continuously when the door was open and then the whole microwave stopped cooking food. We have had far less expensive microwaves outlast this one by years and years. I am truly disappointed and expect better quality from GE. Sadly I want my appliances to match and as reluctant as I am to purchase another GE cafe microwave, I don't really have a choice. We have the built in kit and it sits above the cafe oven so to purchase another brand will look odd. Also please be aware the stainless cooktop scratches horribly - another big disappointment

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Impressed Let me preface this by saying that I have never felt compelled to write a review wherein I have had to give a product 1-star before today. While I typically do put reviews written by others into consideration before making a purchase, I decided to disregard the mediocre 2.5-3 stars that most have given it because the vast majority mention the absence of a backlit panel. I personally do not have that complaint and can see the buttons just fine; however, I have experienced other issues that make me feel as though I have purchased a lemon. We have had the microwave for less than a month and have experienced a couple of things that I consider to be troubling enough to call a GE Service Tech out. 1) The fan tends to run for a prolonged period of time if you cook something using the normal microwave feature. I noticed this right out of the box, i.e. day 1. We have the microwave siting on a counter where it gets pretty of air flow so this greatly concerns me because the ultimate plan is to install it in a wall cabinet, where it would receive considerably less air flow. The tech that came out today says that this is totally normal as it's the microwaves way of cooling down. More technically put, the built-in thermostat automatically turns the vent fan on if the unit is too hot and will not turn off until the microwave is cool again. 2) While cooking a frozen individual sized lasagna about 1.5 weeks into owning to microwave it displayed the most concerning behavior, which prompted me to call for a tech. I believe that the cooking instructions called for 10 minutes of cook time, which we attempted to follow using the normal microwave function. Sadly, the microwave didn't make it through the entire cook time before it started to "have a fit". It was flashing "End" and beeping consistently. We tried everything we could think of: we opened the door, tried different combinations of button pushing to include stop/cancel, the wait and see approach; however, after what seemed like several minutes, there was nothing that we could do to stop it. I ended up unplugging it. When I explained this to the tech, he said that running a microwave on high for 10-minutes is a long time and that behavior was not surprising as we should have used the convection oven option instead. Can someone confirm this? I have cooked these exact frozen lasagnas in my previous LG over-the-range microwave (1/2 the price of this one and 4 years old) and never once experienced anything similar or that caused me to call out a service tech. Since experiencing that, we have used the microwave and that hasn't occurred again as of this time, but we also have not used it for what the tech described as a prolonged period of time (no reference for what's considered prolonged except that 10 minutes may fry your microwave) With all of that said, I do NOT recommend this microwave and am praying that I do not experience any further issues because it seems to me that GE will stand by their product and gas light you when theirs clearly something wrong.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broke after 2 years For the amount I spent on this microwave, the turntable motor broke just before hitting 2 years old. Not covered by warranty. Better just to buy a cheap microwave

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Control Buttons difficult to see We purchased this Microwave as part of a complete Cafe Appliances packages to match. We love the look of our Cafe Appliances newly installed in June 2021. Unfortunately the CEB515M2NS5 Microwave control panel buttons are very difficult to see. Before I purchased it I assumed they we're backlit since it was so obvious they would be. I highly suggest GE Cafe create and offer a replacement backlit control panel or some sort of retrofit backlight kit, it should not be that difficult and would make alot of us happy instead of unhappy with such an expensive appliance. I included pics of just using a light side and top lighting the panel. Seems to show promise, come on GE!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cannot see the buttons!!!! There is NO backlight on the control panel!! My wife and I cannot see what to push!! Our friends said it must be broke. I called the manufacturer and they said “no backlight”, she also told me this was there #1 complaint.
