Good TV but poor tech support
The TV was well packed and arrived with no damage. The delivery personal brought it to the room, unboxed it and powered it up to be sure it worked. I installed the two feet provided and put it in place. It took a bit of trying different settings with the remote but I found how to make it default to the cable TV input on HDMI-1 instead of always starting with the "Amazon Fire TV" screen. This is just a gimmick for Amazon to make more money and is not needed if you use Cable or Antenna signals. I did try the Antenna input as I have an old antenna up in the attic that has a coaxial cable down to the TV room. I was amazed that it found something like 80 stations! And the picture was excellent on every one of them which is typical of the digital TV system. Overall, the sound is a little better than our 13 year old Samsung that this is replacing. (Samsung failed to black and the required parts are no longer available.) It is supposed to have a built in subwoofer but it is not obvious. The bass is somewhat stronger than the Samsung. The picture is very good but I expected something more dramatic as the description mentions it has mini-LEDs behind the screen to make the contrasts between dark and light much stronger. It also is supposed to use AI to drive this LED circuitry. That said, I have not dug into the Setup screens to see if I can improve either the sound or picture. After 6 days of operation the picture started to black out for 1 second intervals. I knew it was not the Cable signal because cable still worked in the kitchen TV. Then it blacked out totally. I thought the TV was off but at 4am it came back on! We were shocked and able to turn it off normally with the remote. Next day, I tried moving the input from HDMI-1 to -2. This corrected the problem so I suspected the HDMI-1 circuit had failed intermittantly. I called Hisense tech support which was answered by a totally useless and nasty automated AI robot who did not listen to anything said and just kept spitting out simple things like "turn the TV off and back on". I described the problem in detail but this stupid robot did not listen to a word I said. Failure #1 by Hisense. Next I dug arouond on their website and found a place to write a message to tech support.which I did. I never heard a single reply from Hisense at ALL ! Failure #2.
Frustrated I called the vendor, PC Richards. I spoke with a real person who scheduled a tech to come out and repair if needed! Yay! The tech arrived an hour early and we tried swapping the Cable input back and fourth from-1 to -2. Using his past experience he said he thought it was just a n old HDMI cable and I should replace it. He was able to bend the cable near the connector and cause the signal drop-out. He left it in HDMI2 which is still working and eventually I will buy a new cable to replace the old one. I suspect his diagnoses is correct. So 2 fails for Hisense support and one success for PC Richards and sons.
