7 YEARS - THEN REPAIR
This unit (or rather it's predecessor the LFXS24623) functioned flawlessly for 7 1/2 years. The compressor has now failed slowly over 4 or so weeks - I guess better than all at once. I learned there's a class action lawsuit against LG for this issue. LG has been 'good' about the repair so far, service in 3 days though a $399.98 labor fee applies. Any other needed parts are also at no charge.
I looked into a more reliable recommendation, KitchenAid because after repairing the LG, how long before it fails again? Well, Kitchen Aid has similar (even worse) reviews for compressor failures! Maybe they really don't make them like they used to, I hear it all the time. Regulations for energy efficiency, and greener production methods doesn't mean we get a better product and with all the energy, time, and resources wasted making more frequent repairs green is less green than the older units that typically lasted 30+ years!
Research well before you buy. At the time I purchased the LG, Samsung was the problem child for refrigerators. At least LG has been very good about repairs and service. All our appliances W/D, Microwave, Stove, Dishwasher are LG and everything else has been fine.
