Shopping to fit your laundry space

It’s time to get clean! Choosing a new washer and dryer set can be a big investment in both space and money, so it’s important to consider the features of your laundry area—as well as the features of your machines of choice—before you buy. Do you have a large, dedicated laundry room that can fit a side-by-side configuration or are you looking to maximize the cleaning capacity of a smaller space in your home? Whatever your future laundry location, we can help you find the perfect pair.

Before you shop, measure the space

Before you fall in love with any machine, it’s important that you determine the exact size of the space that you have to fill. Beyond the size of the room or area, be sure to measure and consider the space you have to move and install your potential new machines. For instance, even if you have a large laundry space, if there isn’t clearance to move large front-loader machines into the room, you might want to be more strategic with your shopping selection.

A roomier fit: dedicated laundry rooms and basements

If you have a separate laundry room in your home, you likely have the luxury of some space. Side-by-side front-loading washer and dryer sets tend to offer greater capacity, making them ideal for large families with lots of laundry to tackle on a regular basis; however, if you have smaller loads to do but a large space, you might want to consider a stacked washer/dryer combo and use the extra dedicated laundry space for storage, ironing or other laundry organization functions.

Similar to a dedicated laundry room, a basement laundry area likely offers a bit more room in terms of the capacity of washer and dryer that may fit in the space. In this case, choose models that have the capacity that you need, but that fit through doorways and down the stairs.

If your laundry space is more compact in an area like a closet, a stacked washer/dryer combo is likely your first instinct because it takes up far less floor space. However, not all combo washer/dryers are made alike, especially when it comes to space. Combo machines come in a variety of capacities, so—depending on the size of your closet—you might be able to fit a generous-capacity set.

Are you ready to create the laundry space of your dreams? With a little planning, a little shopping, and plenty of measuring, you’ll be on your way to a more efficient, pleasant laundry experience in no time.
