We have low ceilings and our previous one was to close to the cook top and the new way gives alot more space. The inside is surprisingly bigger than it looks from the outside. I'd say we only lost maybe an inch. So happy I found this one. It does sound different running than our old microwave but it was pretty old. The chime is pleasing but it would be nice to be able to adjust the volume a bit. I have slight hearing loss and I have a hard time hearing it when it dings but I can get past that down fall because I love everything else about it. Easy install after removing the old one.

Does this unit have lights underneath the microwave to light up the stove? If I do not have a vent (to the outside) does the unit have a charcoal filter?

Yes, this has a Halogen Work Surface Light and it also has a 400 CFM convertible venting system, with a Charcoal Odor Removing Filter
