This unit is beautiful with an excellent stainless steel finish that matches my home appliances. The quality is byfar the best. Installation was extremely easy, and if we had any doubts, we just referred to the manual, which was very easy to read and understand. It adds life and a wonderful look to my kitchen. Upon the first use, I added a pizza slice, and I was surprised at the noise level. It's definitely quieter than the previous unit I had installed. The heat was distributed evenly and accurately. Once the microwave finished, it chimes differently, which I like and it also keeps alarming after each few minutes that your meal is ready. Overal, we are extremely please, and we definitely recommend it.

can this microwave be used on the counter top instead of being mounted?

No, It can not be a counter microwave. There are lights and a fan on the bottom. I love this microwave!
