Glad to report that it is relatively quiet - relative to it's size - and has a number of features - such as a smartphone app to control it - that make it useful. Make sure you're buying the latest model of this machine: check with a sales rep by phone before you simply buy it online.

This unit does a beautiful job cooling the area and is so quite you don’t even know it’s running. The only downside is the FriedrichConnect app is useless, you cannot connect the AC to the app. Reading the reviews on the app go back four years and one one can get the app to connect to the AC. Extremely misleading as a selling feature.

Be certain to clean any debris in the frame of the unit prior to winterizing and ensure the unit is thoroughly dry prior to sealing it for the winter months assuming it is a wall installation. That would lessen the chance of mold buildup in the unit through the years. I use a distilled cleaning vinegar and liquid detergent mix to clean the unit being careful not to damage the delicate fins. Be sure to unplug the ac when cleaning it. The filter on this unit is a bit finicky especially if you are using the additional carbon filter. I’m hoping this unit gets me at least 10 years without issue.

My only problem is it is a little complicated and I am doing something wrong because the temperature changes from 72 to 78 on its own from time to time and I cannot figure out why. Rated 3 out of 5 by Frustrated from Cools well, nothing else works! This unit cools very well. HOWEVER, the timer, WiFi and other functions do not work. The manual is incomplete and horribly written with partial sentences and procedure steps left out. There are also no good YouTube videos to help.This is the only unit that fits in the opening in the wall of my house so returning it was not a good option. Also, because you have to press a button twice to start it you CANNOT connect it to a plug in timer. I had paid for the service plan and got PC Richards to send someone to my home. They told me they had NO training on this model and could help me at all. They also said they had many similar complaints about this product line. PC Richards service people finally got me in touch with a Friedrich service tech who led me through some tests and said he would send a part we could replace ourselves. HOWEVER, PC Richards told me if I replaced the part myself it would void my service contract. I am now waiting for the part to arrive and to see if PC Richards will send someone to my home to install it. Who knows if that will fix the problems.

Unfortunately, to connect to newer networks and operating systems, the unit requires an updated control panel module and it's back-ordered with no shipment date in sight. Otherwise, it does what it's supposed to quite well and for a unit this size, very quiet.

Compressor pulsates and unit sounds like a small jet engine. I have packed this unit with additional foam but really doesnt help. The PC guys are great, the Friedrich is just not what the marketing says ii is. I'd love someone to come here from the Friedrich company not a reseller and tell me what the problem is. Or replace the compresor or even just put a sound blanket on the compressor and see if that works. I'd even pay for everything to get this nightmare out of my head.

It’s not that quiet as you think will be, the remote is useless if you not in front of the unit, you can’t set a timer from the remote, the WiFi connection is not user friendly and feels like you trying to connect something built in 2000. And yes..once again this unit is LOUD .. I think you only pay so much for the look and that’s it. Worst buy ever for me and since I got them from PC Richard and son no returns possible either since I opened the box to test the unit. And I will mention it was installed thru wall by pc Richard so The noise should be less but it did not happened. Kuhl is just for the looks, my opinion get the chill from them is more quiet and way cheaper.

I’m not sure this would help but I found I have to hold the “on” button down for a few seconds then press it again. The unit does not start with one simple push.  Also, replace the batteries just in case that’s it.

Why is the back of the unit that is through the wall open on top? I only see mesh. How is this protected against the rain? Also, is this draining any water?

The unit is open on top, and the two sides. This is to allow as much fresh air as possible to come into the compressor area where it is funneled through the back to cool both the compressor and the condenser coils. Does it protect from he rain? No. But this isn't a bad thing. Rain brings in cool water that also helps keep the unit cool. All the plumbing and machinery are protected from the rain and this is normal. These features help boost the efficiency of the unit. My unit doesn't drain much water. I think this is expected behavior. Your unit should be slanted toward the back (outside) of the unit. That way, the water that is removed from the inside air while being cooled is fed to the rear of the unit where it helps cool the condenser coils. This is a good thing that helps with the energy efficiency. The water that you are missing is being evaporated into the hot outside air as it cools the very hot condenser coils in the rear of the unit. This is the way that Friedrich designs their units these days. They use every opportunity to cool the parts that need to be cooled by use of the most productive methods. Sometimes as the units get older or the weather is so severe, you'll see some water drip down. But when the units are new they make good use of the water that comes from the inside air and use it to cool the outside coils.
