Good Buy
Purchased this air conditioner during a heat wave and don't regret it. Would buy another.

The Kuhl Rules
A loyal Freidrich buyer, this series is by far the best on the market. I've lived here (a renovated 1922 hotel in Manhattan) for 29 years. There is no working thermostat, so there are two settings, not optional: sweltering or freezing. There's a joke that in NYC, there are 10 days of Spring and 10 days of Autumn. Otherwise, it's hot and humid or freezing cold and bone dry. Therefore, I run this baby approximately 345 days a year. And it NEVER falters. 600 square feet with 14' ceilings on the penultimate floor is the equivalent of an oven in a brick and Greystone marble building. 8000 btu's should not be able to cool down two rooms, but the Kuhl is so efficient that it gets COLD in here in 30 minutes. They are not inexpensive, but worth every penny. You won't regret it.

The filter assembly.
A very good air conditioner except for the filter assembly. The filter does not cover the entire radiator. It sticks out at the upper left corner allowing air to bypass the filter. As a result dust will eventually clog up that location of the radiator Also, not very easy to remove or put back into position.

Keeps us cool! You strangely have to press the power button twice to turn it on.

So far I am very happy with the unit, warm weather has not come yet so I have not used the unit yet.

Friedrich 8k wall AC
It’s an excellent AC wall unit. Nothing bad to say, but I did think it would have a bit quieter.

Good A/C but Noisy
I like the controls and remote, but the fan noise and vibration noise from compressor are a bit too loud.

Great AC, but WiFi requires an updated module
In order to connect to the latest WiFi networks and operating systems, this unit requires an updated control panel module. Fortunately, it was available and Friedrich shipped it promptly. I would not recommend installing the updated module yourself if you're not technically skilled, as it would be easy to damage the circuit board connections and wiring. Everything else about the unit is great. It replaced an older, smaller Q chassis unit and the newer unit is much quieter.

Good, but focus on my money not yours
It seems to work. It fit into the old sleeve just like it was supposed to. I docked it one star because it came with a metal sleeve and side panels, and since for me and presumably many others, if Friedrich sold those separately the air conditioner itself probably could have been sold for $50-? less and that would have been money I saved. A few years ago when I replaced a Friedrich, same vintage, same type sleeve, PC Richards didn’t charge the $40 for the sleeve and there were no unneeded side pieces.

Minimal programmability for a pricey unit.
The unit is effective at cooling our room. However it is noisier than expected. I am also disappointed that at this price-point there's no option to set a timer.

Outside air
There's no way to get outside air, it just recycles the room air. I would've preferred that there was a way to just get outside air which maybe cooler and fresher.

A/c unit 4 star but remote 0 stars.
The first unit we received was unable to use the remote. The repairman came and said not fixable. We were given a new unit which cools nicely and looks good but I would rate the remote as one star or less. The range is terrible and since the unit is above a bed it is very hard to get the exact spot to turn it on or off.

Problem A. C
Same as others. 2 years used at 4 months a year. 8 months and fan motor bearings screaming. Winds up like a Boeing 747. Friedrich said sorry. Out of warranty. Of course. This unit fails on the 2nd year.

Steer Clear!!
Friedrich sucks. The fan motor bearings went south after less than 2 years, which was our 4th replacement unit (!!!). The unit does cool the room but was never quiet to begin with (don't believe what they advertise), and it now sounds like a Sherman tank. Thank God for PC Richard's extended service agreements, which I highly recommend getting if you buy this unit!! We are now planning on switching brands - to what I don't know given the cut-out size in our wall....

Very Noisy
I have 2 Kuhl units, 1 8,000 BTU and 1 12,000 BTU. Both look cool and seem identical. HOWEVER, the larger unit is actually quiet, as advertised. The small unit absolutely IS NOT. The key seems to be the fan speeds. When Friedrich says their ACs are quiet, they are referring to the compressor. Fine, but here's the catch. The bigger unit has 4 speeds and the bottom speed is actually quite quiet. The smaller unit only as 3 speeds but with the same 4 speed dial, so essentially the bottom speed is the equivalent of the medium on the larger unit (ie it is missing a low speed). It is loud. Like really really loud. Who cares if the compressor is quiet if the fan would drown out the compressor anyway! I actually thought my unit was broken at first because there was no way this could be the case...so I had a tech come out to look at the setup. Sure enough he confirmed that everything was working as expected. I seriously think this is false advertising on Friedrich's part and they should be held accountable. I am stuck with this AC because I paid for installation and there is really nothing I can do. Avoid this AC!

Very Noisy
Very, very noisy fan even on the lowest speed setting makes it unusable in any room of the apartment. It may me be used in the garage or in industrial areas but not in the room where you live. How can they claim 45% quieter than other brands?
Why don't they give some noise level numbers in dB instead in their specs?
