The controls are slightly different but not a big deal. We have the push the buttons a little harder than our old one. My SO complains the figure prints show up on this MW vs the old one. Oh well :) The old GE MW was manufactured in Sept. 1999. We can only hope this one lasts that long.

Where is the vent located ? is it self venting micro ? I'm replacing the one I have and the venting is above the microwave door on the top of the unit directly in the front where the seam of microwave door and actual unit are and are about an inch deep
